“Easy with the flash, it’s fucking blinding me.” said Max.
“Oh, sorry. Isn’t this awesome though?”
“Yeah, my nipples are rock hard.” said Max with a frustrated sigh.
Vlad switched his phone to take video and kept the light away from Max’s camera, as his stomach filled with slowly building excitement. Was this it?
Would this be the moment that would rocket him to paranormal fame, he wondered. His eyes sparkled with joy and a large smile opened on his handsome face as his camera took in every detail of the barns ancient walls, picturing himself being interviewed on the Ghost Town Podcast or appearing as a guest hunter on Ghost Adventures.
Vlad felt his hair ruffle in a slight breeze as a smell that was familiar to him made his smile turn into a frown. It was a dirty smell, foul and unpleasant.
Breathing the air in Vlad could feel his lungs being coated with this thick offensive air. It was a smell that reminded Vlad of his grandmother, a woman who smoked cigarettes and was covered in the hair of her terrier that would always chase after him.
“Run you little faggot.” she would chortle in a raspy laugh as the dog nipped at his legs.
She knew he liked wearing make up thanks to an off hand comment by mom, so she started calling him a little faggot especially when he’d go running from that vermin of hers. She always wore thick sweaters and the same black and pink knitted shawl on top that which was coated with long brown dog hairs. Every thing she wore was covered with that matted dog hair smell, carpet perfume was what he called it.
It was a smell that was unpleasant for him on a deep psychological level. It turned his stomach and made him stop filming as the scent picked up on another breeze. It made his eyes water just a little, it was even starting to bother Max. He put his camera down slowly as he picked up his head from the screen, Vlad could see his nostrils twitch in the blue light of the camera screen.
“Fuck something smells bad.” Max said rubbing an eye.
“I think...what the hell is that!?”
Max and Vlad turned towards the back of the barn both of their lights crisscrossing over to a large oak tree. There in the area between the tree and the corner of the barn stood a humanoid figure. It was six 18 PLEASE LIKE AND SUBSCRIBE
feet tall on legs with bulbous calves and muscular arms with giant hands that had long curled nails at the end of its fingers. On the broad shoulders of this figure was a head shaped very oddly with a set of pointed ears on either side.
The head was dog like with a long snout and its body was covered from head to toe in wiry hair. The color was similar to that of Vlad’s grand mothers terrier which made him piss himself in fear. The light from their flashlights reflected in its eyes back at them with a sinister red glow, the beast’s mouth opened revealing long white fangs.
Max wheezed out a breath as the tongue of the creature stuck out and a runner of saliva dripped off the tip. The smell of attic carpet was around them in a fog, the hairy thing made a sound like a growl and leaned over slightly towards them. It took a moment for them to realize it was walking to them, its arm looked comically over sized compared to its body but the sharp claws at its end made it impossible to laugh.
Max felt his bowels fill with liquid heat and made him want to take a huge dump. Seeing the shining red eyes and wolfish face scowling at him as it moved made him forget about shitting and start to run. Vlad was about to actually say to the creature wait, please stop before realizing he was alone and began to run.
He chanced one look back but all was dark now, the smell of carpet perfume was
following him as well as the sound of something very large coming behind them.
Vlad whimpered when realized that Max who was fifty pounds over weight was out running him. He suddenly recalled an old joke from middle school about sharks attacks. You didn’t have to swim faster than the shark, just faster than whoever you were with.
Dylan was still out front looking at the oped barn doors when that smell hit him.
It reminded him of the upholstery in a dirty old car, the smell of his first car which put a smile on his face. The smile was erased when he saw Max who looked as if he’d put on some of Vlad’s cover up came running with eyes crying in fright. That alone staggered Dylan who hadn’t seen many emotions other than mild indifference from Max.
“Wha...” Dylan stuttered.
“Run!” Max said in a blubber.
Dylan regarded himself as even minded and as rational as you could ask for, so he stood thinking carefully. When Vlad came running out he felt some relief but that like his smile moments ago
