Chapter 23C: Building a Home Routine That Supports Treatment
Regardless of which stage or appliance your child is using, a few consistent home habits make a measurable difference in how smoothly treatment goes.
• Set a consistent daily reminder (alarm, calendar notification, habit paired with an existing routine like brushing teeth) for anything requiring daily compliance — expander turns, aligner wear, functional appliance wear.
• Keep a small "orthodontic kit" at home: orthodontic wax, a spare aligner case, any specific cleaning tools recommended by your clinic, and the clinic's phone number saved in an easily accessible place.
• Involve your child in tracking their own progress where age-appropriate — a simple wear-time chart (see Chapter 27) can turn compliance into something your child takes ownership of, rather than something done to them.
• Keep a shared calendar of upcoming appointments, since consistent attendance at scheduled visits is one of the strongest predictors of treatment proceeding on schedule.
