Time to relax Time to retire

Funny how time goes by. One day I was the only male in a mansion of females. Now it has been twenty or so years since those boys came here. I have junior who is in his late teens. All my daughters have had children.

Now there is a good ratio of male to female grandchildren. All have had marriage contracts from all over this world. We insisted on that. If we confined the contracts to locals, the gene pool would stagnate. This way, the mix will benefit.

Ever since that village’s fate was made known, there never was any conflicts. Some spats but those were settled by sitting down to discuss what is the source of the disagreement. An impartial adjudicator would preside and settle the matter.

My family, not all stayed as fighters, hunters and gatherers. After we got too many calls to settle disputes, some of the families chose to now be those adjudicators. I do feel that they will be the ones that set this world on the right path.

Don’t get me wrong. They are not passive. Sometimes they need to silently take out the offending party. You could almost call it a side profession, assassin.

My wives and I now just explore. I have found a world that has the same time as our world. They are semi primitive but it seems like they have had guidance and slowly have started to develop. On more than one visit, there have been women that bow when they see me.

As for my wives, the original plan was to retire and we all would go exploring. Things change. Grandchildren are fascinating to watch and spoil. The greatest amusement is to watch our daughters go through all the things we went through.

There are hard times with them also. Some get sick but now we have an abundance of healers. The inevitable has happened, marriage. The joy of having a new wife of our male grandchildren come here to live. The sorrow in watching a granddaughter go off to her husband’s clan.

Most of those times, it is very far away. Most of the times we will only see them in the final life, they are sometimes on the other side of the world. Both Thomas and I are working on a way of instant transport, a door of sorts that we could use to visit.

Speaking of Thomas. He is now at my level of magical power and he is still young. I expect that he will exceed me in power. If there is any chance of making that door, he will do it because his daughter should be arriving at her husband’s clan. That was six months ago.

It is something to see. Our mansion that was once the only home in my territory is now the center of a very large village. It grows in spurts. You have the original boys family homes. George and his now five wife’s home. Then the grandchildren’s homes as they got married.

Some of them now have moved away. They still will be part of our clan but they want to go out and establish their own territory. The first to leave settled in a sort of a ghost town. Years back, all the inhabitants disappeared suddenly.

I now just sit at our outside fire pit and reminisce about the good old days when we men had a place, indoors, all to ourselves, laughing at the butt cheek tones made. The best ones were the ones that we even opened the windows.

Atasha is giving me the look. Does she have the power to mind read?

Well, I am getting the call for supper. Time to go inside. It is getting chilly and I look forward to warming up my old boned next to my six ladies. Retirement has its comforts.

Author’s note:

This one was a chance thought. A few lines in a file. It sat for a while then the characters started to make my fingers type. I have a few like that but now I am working on one that deals with recent events.

No not immigration or what is happening here on Earth. Mars. NASA has released pictures of what can only be called doors. Definite rectangles in walls. Just as strange is the satellite that has been taking pictures of Mars for years. It suddenly has gone missing.

Well, that is about all I will say about that. I have survived the great snow storm of 2026. We got around a foot of snow. All the news channels had people decrying that we are all going to die. Enough of that.

Just old man’s rambling.

I do ask that you look at some of my other stories. Most contain my deepest thoughts as I sit in my back room typing with the only sound being Chip, one of my two cats, snoring. He is actually loud.
