The game debut
We have helped quite a few more and the rumor mill is starting. People are being helped by real magic. Naturally the news is making fun of those who claim that. Even the now young couple are being labeled as frauds. Their neighbors are on the fence but tell people that they are a very good couple.
Mean while the game has gone on the market and it is a greater hit than the first. We have been invited to the scifi convention to autograph the game for fans. Charrel does not know what that is so I explain it to her.
“It is an event for people who love science fiction. It started as a means to come together to talk but it now has become a means of promoting books games and movies. They want me to come there to greet those who love my games. There are quite a few that dress up as their favorite character.”
That gives me a great idea.
“Charrel my love, you know that I refined the characters to look exactly like the two of us. I’m sure that they will recognize that. Why don’t we have costumes made and go as the characters?”
She loves the idea. We have the money so, with the character design sketches, we had the exact costumes made. It was beyond my expectations. “Charrel you take my breath away. You are so beautiful but anything you wear you are beautiful.”
We now are walking into the event. We have passes and could have gone in then change but we wanted to walk the crowd. I have my black cloak that has the flowing collar. It covers the white puffy shirt. My pants are tan buckskins and the outfit is complete with the black calf high boots.
Charrel, however is in a silver skin tight pants with a silver bikini top. Her sword is back mounted and she has those stealth sandals. The crowd is going wild. That wild hair, those red eyes. I’m sure that no one sees me.
If you were to look at all those cameras, you would see her. She does have the strut. I am bias I do see some others but they do not compare to her.
We enter the venue and are shown to our booth. Charrel is fascinated with all the exhibits. “We will have breaks in signing, how about we wander so you can see the other booths.”
At least, that was the plans. but the show opened and it was a stampede. All had their destination to visit first. There, under a giant poster of the characters, we were sitting. They saw the characters in the flesh. We started the signing. Most were in disbelief but when we assured them that we wrote the game, they were delighted.
The biggest question was “Can you do what you do in the game. We tell them that we can do more than what can be contained in the game. They all laugh. Magic does not exist.
The next in line heard the remark from the person ahead of him. He heard my response that magic is real. He wheels up to the table, hands me the game box and I sign it then hand it to Charrel. I ask,
“How did you end up in the chair?”
He removed the blanket to show that both legs were amputated just below the knees. He tells us that he was looking in his car trunk when a drunk plowed into the car behind him. He woke up in a hospital room with no legs below the knees.
“All I have is my games now. No one wants a carpenter with no legs. If only magic was real.” He starts to roll away but I get up and stop him. I look him in the eye and ask him,
“What would you say if I told you that I am the magician from the game? Magic is real. I have been going around with my lovely wife here. We are those ones that the majority of people say are just hallucinations. I can heal you right now, right here.”
Now it is time to talk to the crowd.
“This game is based on what will be happening shortly. There is a parallel world that people live on magic. That world is running out of magic. When it does, those people will die. This world has an abundance of magic but never developed the ability to use it. A rift will open up and they will come here in peace. Like this world, there are a few evil ones there. I have done magic on quite a few people and only ask them to protect the innocent. I now ask you to watch and tell what you see.”
I touch the man and speak an incantation. He now is screaming in pain as nerves regenerate but it only lasts a few seconds. When he looks he sees his legs have been regrown. He stands and just looks at us. The rest of the crowd are silent..
I grab the chair and it becomes a metal staff but with a long curved blade. I make a cover for the blade and hand it to him. “When I need you, you will become a battle expert. The magic I have used will activate that power when you start to practice your skills. You have been chosen. “
With that, we both vanish leaving the crowd not believing what they just saw. The man was just standing there. Soon he ran out of the venue with his polearm. Later the venue announced that they felt that it was just a staged stunt. A magician’s trick.
We do not care because there is at least one more person that believes.
