Memories of futures past
My first memory was when I was blind. I was feeling the tight area I was in. All I felt in front of me was what I felt were wall studs. Thinking that I needed to get out of there, I heard a soft voice just telling me that I would be out soon.
Then I was in a crib in my parents room. I woke up when my mother came in to change. As she was getting undressed, I knew it was not appropriate for me to see so I turned my head and closed my eyes. Things like this happened throughout my child hood life.
I was the oddball, even through my school years. I was the free range child. The era I grew up in was be home before five. Suppertime. I would roam throughout the woods in my area. Made forts and knew all the locations for the best blueberries. I had fun, but mostly by myself.
My first real job was a pinsetter in a bowling alley. I also worked for the funeral home that my father worked at.
Throughout my young life, I was a loner. I did not date like my peers. Timid with a large dose of low self esteem. To quote my mother when I asked her why children did not like me, she told me that it was because I was “happy go lucky”
What the hell did that mean?
I did find that I loved every aspect of computer programming. It was fun and it also was the fact that I control my own personal space. I’m really deep down envious of those who had a social life.
My job was a good one. As a programmer, I really could be alone. Unbothered is the way I liked it. They gave me a story line and I created the software. They would pay me well because I was a savant. All I needed was to read the outline and I just saw every aspect of the program. My fingers would just go on autopilot.
I was both amazed and not surprised at what was appearing on the screen. I lived those codes.
That is why I am just paralyzed.
