MARK 7 – A DEAF MUTE IS HEALED & MORE DEVILS ARE DRIVEN OUT
May we make extra commandments to control other people? What
does it mean to love Jesus in word and deed? What is the
commandment of God? How do sins make us unclean? Why were there so many evil spirits in people? Are they gone today?
Read Mark 7.
In chapter 7 we hear of another word from Jesus, which technically speaking is also a parable. We find out how our thoughts can make us unclean and see two miracles where Jesus casts an evil spirit out of a girl and heals a deaf-mute man. What did Jesus mean when He spoke of the children's food that we should not throw to the dogs? Let's find out!
The lore (traditions) of the ancients (v1-23):
o The Pharisees made tradition more important than the ____________________ of God.
o In v6 Jesus quotes Isaiah 29:13 in the (_________________) to, and in v10, Exodus 20:12 & 21:17.
o More about the Korban in the homework, but for now we can note here that justice is in Jesus'
nature, just as it is in His Father's nature Job 36:6 & Romans 12:19-21.
The Syrophoenician woman (v24-30):
o The woman was WITHOUT her daughter with Jesus and was freed from the demon. There is NO
distance in prayer. You can pray for someone from anywhere on earth! Jesus can come anywhere.
o THE DOGS:
- The unbelievers were often called “dogs” - Matthew 7:6, Luke 16:21, & Philippians 3:2. IN
CONTEXT! Because of their unbelief and because they ate pork and worshiped idols.
- Does Jesus call the woman a dog? __________ In v27, Jesus speaks nicely and gently, and of small dogs (in the Greek Bible they are pets).
- FOCUS: (v24) Jesus and the disciples went OUT of Jerusalem to “gentile land” in Tire and Sidon, where the gentile woman was with the possessed child. He went secretly and did not want to be seen. Just after the daughter was healed, Jesus returned to Jerusalem (v31). Then why was He there??? It was FOR the little girl! All the way, JUST for this ONE woman, as he traveled the possessed man of Gádara in Mark 5. It's all about love!
- The Bible CAN only make sense to those who are REALLY interested Matthew 13:12-13.
- Jesus brought bread to the believers, and when the woman (who looks like an unbeliever or a dog) came to ask for bread, Jesus tested her (v27-29) whether she was really interested (like the woman who suffered bleeding), and she replied that she would even be satisfied with just the crumbs that fall. Then He complimented her faith and healed her daughter.
Healing of a deaf-mute man from Decapolis (v31-37):
o We have already entered Mark 1 saw how the crowd did not remain silent about Jesus' miracles.
o 1 John 4:8 How great is it in Jesus, that he walked on foot to everyone for healing?

HOMEWORK – TO READ
The Korban:
o It is THE LAW OF GOD that we must love and help each other and honor our parents Ephesians 6:2-3, by helping them, even in their retirement, not only by obedience Ephesians 6:1 or respect Leviticus 19:32, but also through financial help as far as we can 1 Timothy 5:4 & 8. As a matter of life and death, we must first take care of our parents and family before we try to help other people with donations, tithes, gifts, and offerings. Basically, if we see our parents struggling, and RATHER
help a stranger, then we are on our way to hell. It is law, just as there is the tithing law in which we must bring money to the temple. God does not just say that a man's children are a sinew to him Psalm 127:5. And God tells us in Matthew 25:40 that what we do against each other, we also do against God. God will one day return the favor to us Romans 12:19, good or bad.
o The Korban is a name that describes the tithe, so it is the offering to God.
o The Pharisees erased the law of God by changing the meaning of the Korban (tithe). They taught the Jewish children that the Korban is an OPTION in which you can turn the offering you WOULD
make to your parents to the temple “church”, and then your responsibility towards your parents (ALSO the law of God) falls away. The Pharisees basically said that if you bring a tithe to the temple, you no longer must honor your parents, in this way to bribe the children and twist the Word of God to get rich. Jesus gave the Pharisees a hard time about this and warned them strictly that it is not right to distort the Word and steal from God in this way, because the tithe (Korban) is law, and it is also law to give your parents financial offer help. God teaches us that those who steal from parents also steal from God! DO YOU EVER REALIZE WHAT THAT MEANS?! It is so good that you pay a tithe to God when you bless your parents (family).
Extra to note:
o In Matthew 7:6 Jesus also teaches us that we should not pour out our hearts to unbelievers. If they will not take our word, we must wash our hands and dust off our feet, and let God send someone else their way.
o As for evil spirits: There were already many evil spirits in people when Jesus came, and He cast them out. Today we see much less evil spirits in people because they get smart and hide much better, and because evil spirits fear the Name of Jesus and will not walk too close to true Christians.
We hardly ever see an evil spirit in Jerusalem, but there were many in the other countries, there where the unbelievers walk across the sea or the river that Jesus rowed over every time. Evil spirits can be seen in many ways, but specifically in addictions of any kind that people just cannot control.
Profanity, drunkenness, pornography, etc. This also includes people who do not have control over their own bodies, as we have already learned.
o Jesus loves us very much and cares terribly and led his disciples all the way to another country just to save one possessed little girl in Mark 7.
o Mark 7:23 teach us to keep our mouths in check. Traditions are dangerous. We pray before we eat, but sometimes lie... We preach a lot, but do not bless the poor? We judge others but do not know the word ourselves.
o Luke 6:35 – Do good to others WITHOUT expecting anything in return!

LISTENING LESSON & CONVERSATION ON MARK 7
After each lesson from Mark, we need to listen to his friends' point of view to see the full picture. For example, where Mark may tell a short story about Jesus' baptism, you can hear much more detail in Matthew and Mark, because John does not talk about this at all. Then also there are stories that John tells which Mark does not tell at all, and we also need to listen to them to be able to bridge from one lesson to another in Mark. This table lists all the chapters that correspond to Mark (these are cross-references), and all the chapters which Mark does not have at all, but which the other gospels do tell (these are bridge chapters). Listen to the sections that are marked. REMEMBER: Listen and read together in your Bible, then we discuss how we each feel about it.

MARK 8 - MORE GREAT MIRACLES HAPPEN AND JESUS SHOWS US HOW TO CONFESS RIGHTLY
Was the disciples' faith already stronger at the second increase of the loaves? Is it a sin to ask Jesus for a sign BEFORE you will believe? Will we be punished for it? Why did the Pharisees ask for a sign? Is Jesus then bread? Are the Pharisees leaven? Is it wrong to sow the truth? How do we carry our cross daily?
Read Mark 8.
In chapter 8 we learn that it is difficult to grow your faith. Jesus heals a blind man and teaches us what it means to serve God without being ashamed of it. Jesus also teaches us how unbelievers speak so that we can recognize them, and we hear exactly how Peter confessed to Jesus! He was the 1st Christian!
Second multiplication of the loaves (v1-9): (First one in Mark 6) o According to Mark 7:14 was there a big ______________ with Jesus here (same crowd of Mark 7).
o Can a short Word save many souls? James 3:1, Matthew 4:19 & 5:16. If someone is really interested, few words will be needed to motivate them.
o 2 Corinthians 3:12 Boldness – Speak with plain and clear words.
o Jesus is very ____________________ with us, just as with his disciples 2 Peter 3:9.
Leaven of the Pharisees (v10-21): → Jesus is our UN-leavened Bread!
o Exodus 12:17-19, 39 & 16:4 & 35 They were only allowed to eat __________-leavened bread. Jesus warned them against leavened bread, the bread of the “Egyptians”, or as Revelation calls it:
“Sodom and Egypt” Revelation 11:8.
o Deuteronomy 16:3 The Word reminds us of the punishment that we also escaped!
o Deuteronomy 8:2-3 The Word is __________ of life!
o It's not about the bread! It is about __________, the living bread, and the __________ of Satan!
o The disciples had the Bread of life in the boat with them and did not realize it John 6:35.
Healing of the blind man in Bethsaida (v22-26):
o It's our job to __________ of Jesus! Romans 10:15-17 & James 1:22-25! The blind man could SEE!
The deaf man could HEAR! We have the following John 3:16! WOW!
Confession of Peter (v27-33):
o How do you confess Jesus? You acknowledge that He the __________ is with your mouth (v29)!
o Why did Jesus command them to be quiet? ____________________________________________!
o Romans 14:3 ☺ Does this mean we can only eat meat and no vegetables? Hehehe... Joke!
o Mark 8:33 Peter unknowingly spoke for Satan in trying to prevent Jesus from dying by the hand of men. We can see that Jesus was very straightforward, even with His closest friends!
To take up the cross (v34-Mark 9:1):
o John 15:14-18- Jesus is our friend IF we do His will. That's an awesome friend to have!
o John 10:30 & Proverbs 3:7-8 – For interestingness!
o 2 Corinthians 3:2-3, Matthew 20:25-28 WE MUST DO ACTIONS OF LOVE DAILY!!!

HOMEWORK – TO READ
Regarding Jesus' two multiplications of the loaves:
o Let's look at details:
FIRST MULTIPLICATION
SECOND INCREASE
5 Breads
7 Breads
2 Pisces
A few fish
12 Baskets left over.
7 Baskets left over.
5000 Families
4000 Families
o Note: 5000 Jewish families in Israel were fed, as well as 4000 Gentile families around Decapolis.
Jesus has locked us ALL in.
o Consider the following numeric values (just for fun):
o 1st → 5000 = 5 Books of Moses, 12 Baskets = 12 Tribes of Israel.
OLD LAWS?
o 2nd → 7 Loaves & 7 Baskets = Fulfillment of the old laws (now new).
NEW LAWS?
The Confession and Sin:
o Very important: The Lord's Supper is a SERIOUS BUSINESS and must be treated with ABSOLUTE
RESPECT AND HUMILITY: Deuteronomy 16:3 & 1 Corinthians 11:27-29!
o Check out Part 3 of the Revelation Series: Our bread should be the Alpha & Omega!
o Read Acts 9 for a story of an amazing Confession and salvation.
o The confession has two actions, not just one. You turn AWAY from sin and turn TO God.
o So, the truth is that we cannot JUST confess with our mouths that Jesus is the Christ, nor can we JUST do good deeds for God all day long. Somewhere along the way we ALSO MUST turn away from sin. Now we know what most sins are, including: Licentiousness, murder, stealing, idolatry, lying, pornography, hatred, jealousy, etc. All the big stuff. So, we will not discuss that here again. But what about smoking? Or drink? Or other addictions? Or tattoos? Did not the Jews smoke hubbly, and drink wine? Let's shine the light on this gray area!
o We know that God strictly warns the teachers against spreading lies about the Bible, in Revelation 22:18-19 & James 3:1, so let us speak the whole truth of the Bible.
Alcohol (and other things that can become addictions):
o We have already learned that if you are addicted to something, it is your master, and then God is not your master.
o Smoking and tattoos we know are automatically wrong because we damage God's temple like that, and God outright forbade that one long ago. Leviticus 19:28 & Romans 14:23. More about tattoos in Mark 14 homework. The Bible even talks about the over-use of food and unhealthy food, which is not healthy for your body, and it is also wrong.
o 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 & 1 John 1:9 Can you say your actions are something that God magnifies?
o Drugs are of course a whole other level of wrong for exactly the same reasons…
o But what about the responsible use of things like alcohol?
o Before we study the Bible's perspective in all honesty, I want to make it 1000% crystal clear that I do NOT support the abuse of alcohol AT ALL, and that I agree that it is better to be a decent example to others. Your actions should ALWAYS honor God, and build people up, comfort, encourage, and cover their sins. We only look at the facts in the Bible here, to CHOOSE to leave alcohol alone without manipulation. Let's switch from baby food to solid food in this area. I hope you will understand and distinguish it with seriousness and responsibility. Let's look at this: 64
The Jesus Series - Student Guide
o Can you drink on occasion without being addicted and without seeking it day and night and without getting drunk? Is it a sin to drink, or to get drunk? There is a difference.
o If God warns us that adultery is a sin, does that mean that sex is a sin? NO! It means - adultery - is sin. Same with drink... Drunkenness is a sin. Drinking enough alcohol that you NO longer honor God, or cannot make good decisions, or are no longer in control of your actions, thoughts, movements, or your words, THIS IS SIN, and it's also manipulation by evil. This is idolatry! See the Revelation series for more. The moderate and proper use of alcohol is not a sin, but we do not play with things as dangerous as that. MANY people have thought they had their use under control, but then their lives quickly fall apart, and their souls are under the prison of evil. DO NOT PLAY WITH IT!
o In all seriousness, the Bible never says that it is a sin to gamble. BUT the Bible does warn that money you get quickly will also perish quickly, and that you must WORK for your money Proverbs 13:11. Many of our actions are only sin when we ignore God's guidelines around them.
o Ecclesiastes 9:7 & Psalm 104:14-15 According to honest Bible examples, we can see that if you drink a glass of wine, or a mug of beer with your food, FOR ENJOYMENT, it's no problem.
o 1 Timothy 5:23 If you use alcohol for HEALTH, like a beer after a wild bike ride, or the alcohol found in 90% cold medicine, or drinking a Malt or Milk Stout to help your stomach, it's not at all and ENTIRELY NOT sin.
o 1 Peter 4:3 & Ecclesiastes 5:18 If you are a drunkard, or use strong liquor, that is SIN!
o Ephesians 5:18 & Proverbs 20:1 Don't believe the nonsense that people spread that there was no wine in Bible times. Because if it didn't exist, God wouldn't warn us to not get drunk. Even BEER
existed at that time! Both wine AND grape juice existed back then.
o The Bible says that it is possible to “get drunk” on strong drink, and that you must be careful when the wine in your glass starts to sparkle and slip easily Proverbs 23:31 (because you lose more and more control to say NO as you drink more and more)! PEOPLE! ALCOHOL EXISTED IN THAT TIME!
o A good Bible teacher will motivate people against the use of alcohol, but not condemn people with the message, because teachers have a greater responsibility than others, in James 3:1-2. We can see another example of bad (self-satisfying education) by remembering what happened to the Pharisees when they wanted to take people's money through the Korban... Instead state the facts, and help people, without manipulation and lies, to be free to come from something.
o It's a gift from God (Ecclesiastes 9:7).
o People already knew about both wine and grape juice in the Old Testament, in Númeri 6:3.
o God treats alcohol like many other things that bring pleasure but are dangerous. He gives us something and expects us to follow the rules when we use it. He gives us the ability to reproduce but forbids licentiousness. God gives us good food, but He says that we should not overeat and become gluttons. Alcohol is not wrong. Its misuse is wrong.
o In 100% honesty, regarding Jesus' own wine consumption:
- The Bible nowhere says word-for-word that Jesus himself drank wine, but that He only
“picked up the cup” on the table and drank it with the Lord's Supper.
- It seems that Jesus drank wine with His food (Matthew 26:26-29), and so did Noah Genesis 9:21, and so did Daniel in Daniel 10:13, when he did NOT fast. Daniel said that MEAT and WINE were their “CHOICE FOOD”!!! Remember now, that Jesus is the Son of God, and Noah and his family were saved from a YEAR LONG flood, and Daniel was thrown into the lion's den and the lions became his friends! Uhm, do you realize what's going on??? If ALL alcohol-use were sin, their situations might have been different.
65
- Regardless of whether Jesus drank wine or not, how do we explain that He turned water into wine for people at a wedding party - which He Himself also attended, to be merry?
When the wine ran out, Jesus gave them John 2:1-11.
o In Matthew 11:18-19 & Luke 7:33-34 (& to v44) we hear that the Pharisees came to Jesus and said: John does not drink wine, but the Son of Man does…??? It is clear that the Bible completely implies that Jesus did drink a drop of wine; and the Pharisees wanted to cause trouble and so they called Him a drunkard... It is also for this false judgment-danger from Philistines, that we as Christians rather do not show an example of drinking to others. Jesus was DEFINITELY NOT a drunkard, but it's safe to believe that Jesus with his disciples ALL
enjoyed wine on occasion and almost 100% assuredly in moderation at every night's meal.
Because how do you explain that He just “randomly” sat around a table with His disciples, and His cup was ALREADY full, and then He picked it up and held the communion right there on the spot and let everyone drink from HIS cup? And the Pharisees come to say that Jesus is NOT like John (the Nazarite above)?
o Regardless, it was primarily medicinally better than just always using water that wasn't clean or filtered, and we don't even have that excuse anymore in our modern-day world.
Those who use it in this way deceive themselves and others.
o When it comes to communion, we keep alcohol away from people because it tempts the very weak, is expensive, is against the law to drink and drive, etc. But Jesus' example had been with dead ordinary fermented alcoholic wine as far as we can understand.
o The reason why we give children grape juice with communion instead of alcohol is because the Bible says in Romans 13:1-2 (& up to v14) that we must obey our country's laws, and it is against the law to use alcohol if you are under 18 years old. The grape juice is still symbolic of the blood of Jesus, for children as well as for adults.
o Beyond this, for the critical minds: Let's also remember that the abuse of alcohol is exactly the same as any other sin, so don't look at people with eyes of judgment when they are drunk, because Jesus loves them as much as for you, and gossip is also a sin. Lying is also a sin. Stealing is sin. God says if you hate your brother, you have committed MURDER in your heart, and you have innocent blood on your hands. God says that those who judge will be JUDGED. Let's be a beacon of hope for others.
Let's cover, support, and rather help when it comes to the abuse and addiction of alcohol!
o The only people that God directly commanded not to drink were the Nazirites in Numbers 6:1-4, NOT the Nazarenes (Jesus). This command was also only given to the few who themselves choose to make a holy vow, to dedicate themselves to the Lord. It was not meant for everyone. If someone took this vow, they had to release ALL grapes, wine, juice, fruit, and even the pits, for life. The two words “Nazarenes” and “Nazarenes” are two completely different words: o A Nazirite is someone who has taken the “no alcohol vow”.
o A Nazarene is someone who was born or comes from Nazareth, a town in Galilee, in Israel.
o Only three people are ever mentioned by name, who took this vow: Samuel and Samson in the Old Testament, and John the Baptist in the New Testament. 1 Samuel 2:8-28, Judges 13:1-5, & Luke 1:13-17.
o God tells us in Proverbs 31:4-7 that one should give strong drink to people who WANT to undergo...
So, the Bible makes it “abundantly clear” that we should NOT use strong drink at all!
66
The Jesus Series - Student Guide
THE POINT IS:
o There is nothing wrong with having a beer in the fridge to share between you and your friend on any occasion... But drinking more than enough (for mood and relaxation) on single occasions is what is a problem for God. Once you no longer have control over your actions or thoughts, it's too much, and once you can no longer glorify God, it's too much.
o We must also remember that it is against the law to drink and go to work. So, you automatically sin when you break your country's law. Romans 13:1-2 (& up to v14) o Some may ask: What if the law of the land allows you to commit specific sins, such as having intercourse with your own sex, or smoking or getting tattoos, or having premarital sex, or abortions, or alcohol, etc? For all the laws that violate God's law, we must obey only GOD'S LAW, because God's law is the only absolute law Psalm 19:8 & 119:160. God's law is the highest authority, that's the final say.
o So: Can you say that you JUST drink enough alcohol on occasion? If you can't tell, you have work to do if you want to escape the hot fire of hell! Your conscience is your accuser.
o A few final key verses about alcohol and its RESPONSIBLE use: Psalm 104:14-15, 1 Corinthians 9:19-23, 10:23-24, Isaiah 62:8-9, Galatians 5:19-21.
o The most important verse under the sun regarding alcohol: Romans 14:15-21

PRACTICAL LESSON TO MARK 8
TELL SOMEONE YOUR FAITH
We learn in 1 Peter 3:15 that we must be always ready and able to tell anyone what the reason for the faith in us is. For everyone, the reason for their belief may be different: John 3:16 or Psalm 118:24 or James 1:2-4 or Isaiah 40:31 or Hebrews 11:6 or Ephesians 1:18 or etc.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. ANOINT YOURSELF with olive oil or salve oil and wash your face.
2. Walk up to someone who is not in your Bible study group and say: o “Listen man... My Bible study group gave me homework. I must tell someone: I believe that Jesus is the Christ, and that means that one day I will go to heaven.”
3. Who did you say this to: ____________________________________________________________
4. What happened then:

MARK 9 – MORE PARABLES, THE MOON SICK CHILD, THE HUMILITY, AND THE BIBLE STUDIES
What was so special about Peter, James, and John? What is it to be moonstruck? Can we cast out spirits without faith if we ONLY use the Name of Jesus? Did the disciples know Jesus was going to die? Are some people better than others? Is it wrong to have Bible studies as your Religion? How wild is hell really?
Read Mark 9.
In chapter 9 we hear a lot. Jesus strengthens his disciples, teaches us the power over evil, teaches us how to be leaders, and makes it easier for us to pray in Jesus' Name. Jesus makes it very clear that we must not extinguish each other's Bible studies and gives us a foretaste of hell.
The glorification on the mountain (v2-13):
o The disciples struggled to believe 100% that this Jesus was really __________. That's why Jesus took them to the mountain. So that His closest disciples can see Him in His full glory and believe!
o What did Jesus discuss with Moses and Elijah? Luke 9:31
o John and Peter wrote about this: John 1:14 & 2 Peter 1:16-18
The boy who was moonstruck (v14-29):
o Someone who is moon sick looks like they are crazy. The boy is literally called a “lunatic”, which comes from “lunar” which means “moonstruck” in Greek. The moment he saw Jesus, he had epileptic seizures. The boy had epileptic seizure symptoms, but it was a demon as described here.
Both exist and must be distinguished.
o We have already learned about casting out evil spirits Mark 5, but here we learn that Jesus simply called the spirits by the name of what they did. He has inv25said to the spirit: “You __________ and __________ spirit, I command you, get out of him and never come back into him!”
The greatest in the kingdom of heaven (v30-37):
o Here we see that Jesus really knows ___________ and can see ahead. Hebrews 4:13 → Shocking!
o If we do something for someone, we also do it for Jesus Matthew 25:40!
o To be a leader we must first be a ____________________!
- Matthew 7:12 Do unto others what they should do unto you!
“He who is not against us is for us” (v38-41):→ v41 Do good deeds DAILY!
o VERY IMPORTANT! There is no clearer message given to believers by Jesus' own mouth, that Bible studies is a real, lively, blessed church Matthew 10:42.
The obstacles (v42-50):
o Jesus sees us as ______________, believers who follow Him1 John 4:4. Jesus stands up for us v42!
o We get three clear warnings: v44, 46, & 48.
o God says we must have salt (fervor of the Spirit) in us! Luke 14:34-35, Matthew 5:13, & 3:11-12, Acts 2:3-4, Isaiah 4:5 (shelter = protection), & 1 Thessalonians 5:19.
o Let us learn the way to heaven: Proverbs 9:1-18 & Matthew 7:13-14. Proverbs gives us a stern warning that Bible reading should be a priority!

HOMEWORK – TO READ
What was so special about John, James, and Peter:
o JOHANNES: He was the disciple (apostle) that Jesus loved. It is NOT John the Baptist who was born with the Holy Spirit. The Baptist was killed in Mark 6. This John in Mark 9 is the disciple, the author of John, Revelation and the 3 letters of John. He is also one of the two sons of Sebedéüs, brother of James. In Mark 3 we see he is one of the sons of thunder, who also likes to call down rapid fire from heaven for lost souls. John 13:23, 21:2, & Matthew 4:21. Jesus handed over to this John His mother in his personal care, in John 19:26. John and Jesus were best friends!
o JACOBUS: There are TWO known Jameses among the millions, as there is more than one John...
James, son of Zebedee is in question here, the brother of John the apostle, the one who wrote the book James wrote. He is the other son of the thunder along with his brother as we learned earlier, also one of the first apostles that Jesus called with John to follow Him. They were Jesus' closest and first ministry. He is also often called James the Great to distinguish him from James, the son of Alphaeus or James the brother of Jesus (the righteous). Matthew 4:21. James the son of Joseph and Mary, who is Jesus' half-brother Galatians 1:19, is not the apostle. This James's other brothers were Joseph, Simon, Judas, and their sisters. Matthew 13:55, John 7:2-5, 1 Corinthians 15:7, & Acts 1:13-14, etc.
o PETER: Peter was literally the very first disciple after his brother Andrew who was called by Jesus, and then John and James. They immediately put down the nets they were mending and followed Jesus. Peter is an excellent example of faith! When Jesus saw Peter (Simon), Jesus gave him the name Peter, which means “a Rock” to say that Peter is the foundation of Jesus' church Galatians 2:9, John 1:43 & Matthew 16:18. The FIRST STONE, on top of Jesus who IS the TRUE FOUNDATION!
We learned about Peter's name in Mark 1. We can only guess that he is the foundation because he was a sinner, just like us, and Jesus comes with forgiveness. Peter confessed Jesus as the Christ FIRST BEFORE ANYONE Matthew 16:16-17. Peter did many good things: walked on water, cut off the high priest's ear, spoke for Jesus' disciples, etc. He was willing! Matthew 14:28-29, 16:22-23, 17:4-6, 26:33, John 18:10-11 & 70-74, Acts, 1 & 2 Peter, & Galatians. Peter also denied Jesus 3
times just before Jesus was crucified, and when Jesus rose from the dead, He was the first to say that Peter should not be left out! He ALSO needs to hear the “Good News Gospel” of Jesus'
resurrection, because Peter was included and was also saved, just as he was! Jesus let him experience the fish-catching miracle a second time Luke 5:4 & John 21:3-14. Only when Jesus called him, and again after Jesus' resurrection. Jesus wanted to make sure Peter knew he was ALSO
INCLUDED in salvation, because Jesus CAME FOR SINNERS! Peter died for his faith in Jesus, in John 21:18-19.
o These three were everywhere with Jesus and first involved in everything He did: Matthew 17:1, Mark 5:37, 14:33, Luke 8:51, & John 21:20-22. They were also the first 3 of 4 disciples that Jesus called (together with Andrew, Peter's brother) when He began to preach, just after John the Baptist went to prison, in Mark 1:14-20. James died first Acts 12:2.
o More information on the 3: John 1:44, Mark 1:29, 1 Corinthians 9:5, & Luke 5:10.
73
To ponder:
o According to Luke 9:31, Jesus discussed His crucifixion and ascension with Moses and Elijah.
o In 2 Peter 1:15 we are reminded to regularly remember Jesus' ascension, and we do this through the Lord's Supper.
o Mark 9:42-50 Salt you and make it palatable, to entice people to come and listen.
o If you live in the Spirit (practice good deeds), you will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh (the sins you think are beyond your control), because you will be too busy serving the Spirit through deeds! The BEST way to align the flesh is to over immerse it with what God wants you to do. It's available in the word. There you go!
About the parables:
o Parables that happen between Mark 9 & 10 in the other gospels:
- Parable 9 – The unforgiving servant (Matthew 18:21-35): o This parable is plain and clear. If you do not forgive your neighbor, no matter how many times, Jesus is not going to forgive you either, but send you to hell. Matthew 6:12 & 14-15 & Luke 17:3-4.
- Parable 10 – The Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37):
o This is a very cool comparison! Here is a man lying half dead on the side of the road...
Two people come by and see him, and just keep driving past, but a third guy sees him and helps. All three people could CHOOSE how close they wanted to be to the man. Our closest is ANYONE, no matter how far they are away from us. We must support our neighbor through ACTS OF LOVE, ESPECIALLY if they have NOT earned it, and ESPECIALLY if we do NOT know them. Luke 6:27, Romans 13:8-10 & 15:2.
- Parable 11 – The rich fool (Luke 12:13-21):
o Greed is geared toward money. God HATES it when people save in such a wild way that they put 100% trust in their money and don't trust God to protect their future.
This does NOT mean you shouldn't save for your retirement. It just means that you should not think that money is going to keep you safe, because only God can. And God does not want us to become so rich that we no longer must work, because that is against God's principles. Then God will not hesitate to pronounce your judgment or doom on you early. Proverbs 6:6-8, 11:28, 21:20, 1 Timothy 6:17, Genesis 41 & Matthew 6:25-34. Build up your treasures in HEAVEN!
- Parable 12 – The great meal (Luke 14:15-24): Also in Matthew 22:1-14.
o The story in Matthew is much wilder than the one in Luke. WOW! God calls EVERYONE to repentance, but that does not mean that everyone will just be saved. If you only use God as a spare wheel in your life, He will use you as the FLAT WHEEL!
THINK ABOUT IT. Matthew 7:21. Don't be too busy for the gospel! God calls us to His meal, and if we make excuses or are ashamed of it, Jesus will also be ashamed of us Luke 9:26 & 2 Timothy 2:15.
- Parable 13 – The lost sheep (Luke 15:1-7):
o Jesus would have died for you on the cross even if you were the ONLY person on earth. He came for YOU! YOUR! YOUR! YOUR! Realize it! And every time someone repents of their sins there is a big party in heaven! And woe to the man who causes Jesus' sheep to go astray: Ezekiel 34:6-12. God will come upon them with a roar that no man can describe!
74
The Jesus Series - Student Guide
- Parable 14 – The lost penny (Luke 15:8-10):
o Here God repeats Proverbs 13 in a different way, so that we surely understand how happy heaven can become when we decide to stop sinning John 3:5.
- Parable 15 – The prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32):
o Here, Parable 13 is basically repeated, but more information is given. We learn that young people often Job 32:4, but not ALWAYS Proverbs 1:8-9, make wise decisions.
And, that God saves EVERYONE, even those who are lost in sin after conversion. 1
Timothy 4:12, Psalm 119:9, & 1 John 1:9. Jesus is going to come and get you and reel you in like a fish when it is time, if you are really interested in the Word, but have just been lost through sin.
- Parable 16 – The unjust manager (Luke 16:1-18):
o This parable sounds almost impossible. It's beyond difficult to understand correctly IF you think like the Pharisees (world) think. To the deaf ear, it sounds like Jesus is telling us to rob people by cunning schemes. That's not the case at all. Jesus will NEVER give us permission to do this, because He did not come to take away the law of God, but to show us that it IS possible to fulfill it Matthew 5:17.
o Jesus basically said to his disciples here: “Go! Go play with that snake whose name is Satan and Lucifer. Go! Go play, then you'll see how he pecks you at the end.” Can you see how Jesus used sarcasm to make it very clear on every possible level, that the satisfaction of earthly goods brings death James 1:15? Here Jesus changed his disciples' milk food to solid food 1 Corinthians 3:2 & Hebrews 5:12.
o To understand this parable: Jesus tells a story about a rich man (a swindler). How do we know he's sneaky? Because in Luke 16:8 the rich man praised his crooked driver for driving unjustly. So, the rich man himself was also sly. The rich man heard that his manager was wasting his money and wanted to get rid of him. When the manager heard this, he quickly made very sneaky deals to help the rich man's debtors, because then these debtors would be obliged to help the manager with accommodation when he was fired. But when the rich man heard about it (heard how sneaky the manager could be if he wanted to), the rich man was very happy.
The rich man complimented his driver on his sly way of taking other people's debts upon himself, because by doing so the driver now has debts that he has to pay against the rich man. Then Jesus came and said to us: If we make friends with the world, we will also live in the houses of the world (hell), the abode of Mammon Matthew 6:24. The rich fool had many possessions and did not want to sell or lose them to gain heaven, in Parable 11 Luke 12:13-21.
o Mammon is the name for money, wealth, and the love of earthly possessions and satisfaction such as gluttony and debauchery. More references: Matthew 6:19-24, Revelation 18, Luke 12:13-21, 16:13-15, Proverbs 1:21-33, 8:18, 1 Timothy 6:6-10, Ecclesiastes 5:10, & Mark 4 :19, & also the poem written by John Milton “Paradise Lost” .
o Notice Jesus is still talking to the same mixed group of disciples and Pharisees, with whom He talked in the previous 3 parables, because in Luke 16:1 it says that Jesus said “also” ...
o In Luke 16:14-15, the Bible specifically says that the Pharisees - WHO WERE GREEDY
- were bothered by this parable of Jesus, and that Jesus gave them a hiding.
75
o Luke 16:8 explain that the unbelievers on earth are SMARTER about the things of the world, than believers are SMARTER about the things of heaven that are coming, and that this is a shame.
o Luke 16:9 tells us that we must be generous with our money (our Mammon) towards the world, so that in the next world our new friends can receive us in their homes.
Almost the same story as in Matthew 6:19-21. We must NOT love our money (our Mammon) 1 Timothy 6:10.
o To summarize: In this parable, Jesus wants to show us that we should not be like the unjust manager, who used money to satisfy himself, but rather, to be generous and fair with what God gives you, by forgiving people their debts, and to have your hand wide open to the poor Deuteronomy 15:11. WE are God's managers, of God's wealth. NOTHING belongs to us, but God grants us everything 1 Timothy 6:17, if only we WOULD WORK RIGHT WITH IT as Luke 16:9 explains!
o In Luke 16:10-13 Jesus tells us many things: First: If you were not fair and generous with your money on earth, God is not going to put true heavenly things in your hands. Second: If you don't take care of other people's things and treat them fairly, and don't give people their due through crooked business, God will NEVER give you your own money and wealth and possessions. …and Third: We cannot serve or love God and Mammon (money) at the same time. Crooked money vanishes like fog before the sun: Proverbs 13:11. We must use our money to promote the kingdom of God on earth, and so we will build up treasures in heaven Matthew 6:19-20.
- Parable 17 – The unjust judge (Luke 18:1-8):
o This is a cute parable. God says we must listen carefully to what the judge says in v4-5. The judge said that he was responding to the woman's request for help because she kept bothering him non-stop. Then God tells us in the end of the parable that we ALSO must keep “plaguing” Him in prayer, without getting discouraged and giving up, because then God will also answer your prayers very quickly. But God first wants to know if you have faith, so you don't just get your prayer answered. With God it works like EXCHANGE. You give God millions of prayers and supplications from the bottom of your heart, and God gives you the answers then, if you ask for something according to His Will. John 14:12-14, Matthew 7:7, 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, James 4:2-3 & 5:16.
- Parable 18 – The Pharisee and the tax collector (Luke 18:9-14): o This parable is very popular, and easy! The Pharisee thinks he is good, he looks down on others, and he justifies himself. The tax collector just, dead simple, admitted that he was a sinner. Which one do you think received forgiveness and salvation when they prayed?

LISTENING LESSON & CONVERSATION ON MARK 9

PRACTICAL LESSON TO MARK 9
PREACH
Jesus gave us a direct command in Mark 16:15 that we must make disciples of the nations. All of us. Every last one, must be able to open our mouths and convey something of the Good News Gospel to someone else 1 Peter 2:9. In this practical lesson, everyone will have an opportunity to deliver a 15-minute message of your choice with our next Bible study lesson.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Anoint YOURSELF with olive oil or salve oil and wash your face.
2. Choose the topic you want to chat about. ANYTHING in the Bible.
3. Find every verse under the sun you can find that deals with your topic. Read each verse and select a group of the most important verses that convey your message. JUST ENOUGH FOR 15 MINUTES!
4. Put verses together & write notes, so you remember what you want to discuss about them.
5. Arrange for your lesson to be typed and copied for your teammates. MAKE SURE you do the lesson in time not to forget THIS POINT 5. Otherwise let the group know that we can postpone for you.
6. REMEMBER: It is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT that you practice your lesson. 10-15 minutes only. It will be timed, and you cannot exceed it, because you have team-mates who will also each have their must bring their own 15-minute lesson, and together we will make up 1 hour. You don't want to rob your teammates of their time. Make sure you have exactly 15 minutes of preparation.
7. Be ready to present the lesson in any way that is comfortable for you, but it must be in person and not recorded! Don't stress about doing it like our regular lessons. Just teach us for 15 minutes the message you have prepared, in 100% your own way, and with any tricks you want to use yourself!
No one is going to judge you, because everyone is going to be busy stressing about their own message! SO RELAX! ☺ It's for Jesus!
8. If you think you're going to talk too long, then just prepare a 10-minute lesson, and keep a few extra versions somewhere that you can pull out if you accidentally talk less than 15 minutes.
9. You CANNOT bring a 5-minute message. 10-15 minutes is the norm.
10. Strength!
Possible topics you can choose if you can't come up with something to discuss: A. Why did Jesus have to lead before His death?
B. How are Moses and Jesus almost exactly the same people?
C. How do you do the actions of love, and how can we praise the Lord?
D. Why should we pay tithing?
E. What will heaven look like? Or what will hell look like?
F. Who exactly is the Holy Spirit, and what is His work?
G. How do you save souls?
H. How do you get over the fear of death?
I. What sins do we commit every day without thinking about them?
J. When do we get the promises of God?
K. What blessings are in the Bible that we can pronounce on each other?
L. How do we make alone time for God when we are born into such busy lives?

MARK 10 – MORE PARABLES, THE DIVORCE, THE CHILDREN, AND THE PROBLEM WITH MONEY
Can married people get divorced? Can we remarry after we divorce?
Does it depend on HOW you divorce? May we ever say that we are too busy for God's Word if someone needs help? How do you receive the kingdom like a child? Can the law save us? Is it hard to follow Jesus?
Should we be humble? How do you follow Jesus?
Read Mark 10.
In chapter 10 there are again many amazing stories. We learn about divorce and find out how important it is to always support each other in the Word. Jesus shows us why we are poor in the world, shows us how we can be leaders in heaven, and heals a blind man who immediately followed Jesus.
The divorce (v1-12): → It's 2 actions (v11 & 12) o Lawful means “_____”. The Pharisees wanted to know if you can legally divorce according to Jesus.
o God (and therefore Jesus) ____________________ divorce Malachi 2:16 & Matthew 19:6.
o Marriage is a ______ before God: James 5:12, Proverbs 19:5, Numbers 30:2, & Ecclesiastes 5:4-5.
o We must NOT divorce! So don't get married unless you are absolutely _________ 1 Corinthians 7!
o More about divorce in the homework.
Jesus blesses the children (v13-16):
o If you EVER tell ANY SOUL, they are not welcome in the church Matthew 18:6. It includes YOURSELF
TOO! You cannot say that you do not go to church because you had a bad day, or are not right in your heart, or because you have sinned, BECAUSE: Jesus walked with sinners and tax collectors Matthew 11:19, and IT'S EXACTLY THEM that Jesus wants IN the church Luke 5:32 & Mark 2:17!
o If you do not have the simple faith of a __________ cannot have, you will not see heaven Mark 9.
The rich young man (v17-31): Also, in Matthew 19:16-23 & Luke 18:18-23.
o Look at the honor towards Jesus in v17! Jesus showed the young man that ONLY GOD is good. No one is without __________. Jesus does NOT expect us to get rid of our wealth Romans 4:4, but rather that we NOT make an idol of our possessions. Jesus looked to see if the guy loved his neighbors (sell your possessions and bless the __________), and whether he loves God __________
(follow Me), but he could not! It would gather a heavenly treasure for himself, but he could not, because his love for __________ 1 Timothy 6:10 was greater than his love for Jesus.
o If we leave unbelieving family members (INCLUDING your other half), or consider our possessions unimportant, we’ll get them back 100 times over, yes WITH TRIBULATION v30, but with eternal life.
The question of the sons of Zebedee (v32-45):→See homework for this important topic!
o If you want to sit on God's side, you must also take responsibility for those thrones!
The blind man of Jericho (v46-52):
o Jesus could SEE the man was blind, but Jesus asked, “What can I do for you?”
o The blind man __________ louder and louder when everyone silenced him.
o Jesus stood still immediately when He heard the man's cry. What can we learn from this?

HOMEWORK – TO READ
The only cases in which you MAY divorce:
o When you are unbelieving in a marriage with someone who believes in God 1 Corinthians 7:15.
o When you catch your other half in debauchery (adultery) Matthew 5:32 & 19:9.
- It is therefore valid even if you catch the person watching pornography: Matthew 5:28.
o When death do you part 1 Corinthians 7:8-9.
o You may divorce for other reasons not mentioned above, but then you may not remarry Matthew 19:9. Look at the “…and shall marry another…” part.
o If you divorce outside God's law, or remarry, you are not condemned to death. Because God understands and considers love more important than everything else 1 Peter 4:8 & 1 Corinthians 13:13, and He promises to forgive and forget if you ask 1 John 1:9, Hebrews 8:12, & Isaiah 43 :25.
So if you want to divorce for reasons such as child molestation or abuse, then you can ask yourself if God was ever in marriage in the first place, and if you were ever really married, because love does not do such things to its neighbor?
Think about this:
o According to Ecclesiastes 5:4-5, Proverbs 26:19 & Matthew 5:37, God is very serious about promises. He hates a promise-breaker so much that He promises to personally ruin his life! KNOW
WHO you are dealing with here!
o How can you have the faith of a child? Well one way to try is to think about - when you are telling a story to a child. Think about their reactions. Try it!
o Go read the story of the rich young man in all the gospels... Jesus has awesome humility! Jesus already knew the man knew the law and was rich even before they spoke. God knows EVERYTHING!
o Love of money only brings sorrows. God bless his loved ones in sleep! Psalm 4:4 & 127:2.
o Sometimes it is necessary to ask God for something more than once, through petition, supplication, thanksgiving, often, without stopping, etc... Maybe the answer is not no, but just: “not now”. In other cases, God may want to see how serious you are about what you are asking for... Maybe there are a few things you need to learn before God will grant you your requests. There are a LOT
of verses that confirm this. The blind man of Jericho had to call louder and louder! When Jesus came to him and clearly SAW he was blind, Jesus still expected the man to ASK for what he wanted.
Read 1 Kings 18, Philippians 4:6-7, Luke 11:9-13, 18:1-8, 1 Thessalonians 5:17-18, Ephesians 6:18, Psalm 86:3, Isaiah 62:6-7, 1 Timothy 2:1-2, Colossians 4:2, Hebrews 5:7, James 5:16, and so much more!
o Isaiah 30:18 → God is ANXIOUS to do good to you! PRAY!!!
Further information about the marriage:
o The Lord said it is good to be single. 1 Corinthians 7:1-2 & 8-9 But if you cannot stay away from fornication without marriage, then it is better to rather marry. The Lord wants us to remain single so that we can spend more time with Him. And that's why it is important not to forget about the Lord when we enter into marriage.
o It's not a 50/50 affair at all - Colossians 3:23.
o The long and the short: 1 Corinthians 7 (Read straight through these verse descriptions) a. v2 - The Lord knew we have strong sexual desires, and that is why He warns us.
b. v5b – You may abstain from sex for a while, only if the decision is MUTUAL.
82
The Jesus Series - Student Guide
c. v5c - Then it is everyone's duty to have sex regularly, so that you do not sin.
d. v6 – It's not a commandment to have sex regularly, it's just a suggestion for a healthy marriage. We serve the Lord in everything. In marriage, during sex, when we fast, everywhere the Lord is served with the unique gift that each of us gets when we are born again. 1 Corinthians 12:4-6 (whole chapter for all the gifts of the Spirit) e. v10-11 – You may not divorce.
f. v12-14 – The one who believes in God has a duty to sanctify the one who does not believe, so that it keeps your children pure.
g. v15 – A believer may allow his unbelieving other half to divorce him/her.
h. v28 – When we marry, there is temptation to divorce, and when we are single, there is temptation to licentiousness and fornication. Be strong!
i. v32-34 - In marriage, two parties should not be so busy serving each other that they forget to serve God. The Lord wants everyone to be concerned about Him, because what use is marriage if God is not in it?
j. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 - The love that must be in marriage as well as in the Christian's heart.
k. Hebrews 13:4 – The judgment.
l. Ephesians 5:23-24 & 32 – The man is the head of the house; he is in control. The woman must respect his decisions.
m. Ecclesiastes 4:12 – Your best friend, and God is the only third party allowed to “interfere” in marriage.
n. Ecclesiastes 5:5 – If you break a promise, God will destroy the work of your hands.
Remember your vows to each other before you decide to divorce.
o The man's responsibility:
- 1 Corinthians 7:3 – You must always be GOOD to your wife, willing, gentle, and honorable.
- v4 – The woman has power over your body, you belong to her.
- v5a – You must ALWAYS be available and willing for a night or day of passion whenever the woman wants it, however much she wants it, with a smile. It is the will of God.
- 1 Peter 3:7 - Honor your wife with all you have, or your prayers will not be answered.
- Colossians 3:19 - Men should love their woman and not treat her harshly.
o The woman's responsibility:
- 1 Corinthians 7:3 - You must always be GOOD to your husband, willing, gentle, and honorable.
- v4 – The man has power over your body, you belong to him.
- v5a – You must ALWAYS be available and willing for a night or day of passion whenever the man wants it, however much he wants it, with a smile. It is the will of God.
- 1 Peter 3:1 – You must be submissive to your husband. You have an opinion, but your husband has the final say, and you must obey it with a smile, unless it directly breaks the Law of God.
- Colossians 3:18 - Wives must be submissive to their husbands.
o For those who are not in your marriage: Mark 10:9 - When you interfere in a marriage to break it up, you will be punished by God, even if you were right. Ephesians 5:23 & Proverbs 16:28, 17:9-10, 18:8 – When the man allows anyone to interfere in the marriage, he does not follow the law of the Lord. The husband is responsible for protecting the marriage.
o Where we must beware: James 4:1 & 1 Peter 2:11, Ephesians 4:26, 1 Corinthians 6:15-20, 1
Corinthians 10:13
83
o How marriage should be. Everything the Bible describes about marital sex: Song of Songs -
Goodness... Proverbs 5:15-19 - Mamma Mia!
o More verses about marriage: 1 Corinthians 9:24-25, Ezekiel 23:19-21, Ezekiel 16:25, Revelation 19:7-9 & 21:9-14, Genesis 2:23-25, 1 Peter 3, Romans 12:13, 13:11, 2 Corinthians 6: 10, James 1:10, 4:14, 1 Peter 1:24, 1 John 2:17, Ruth 4:13, John 2:1-2, Mark 10:9, 1 Peter 4:8, Ephesians 4:2 -
3, Proverbs 3:5-6, Ecclesiastes 5:2, Proverbs 20:25, 11:3, Titus 2:4-5, Ephesians 5:25-33, Matthew 18:8-9.
About the parables:
o Parables that happen between Mark 10 & 11 in the other gospels:
- Parable 19 – Laborers hired at different hours (Matthew 20:1-16): o Here Jesus teaches us that EVERYONE will be the same in heaven! It doesn't matter if you were saved yesterday, or 20 years ago, and it doesn't matter how hard everyone worked for God. God has NO favorites Romans 2:11 & Acts 10:34-35. Everyone will get exactly the same treatment, and everyone will also have equal permission to eat and drink from the fruit of life and the river of life Psalm 36:8-10 & Matthew 5:45.
Everyone will receive their own treasures in heaven according to the works they have done on earth Matthew 6:19-20, but EVERYTHING in heaven is free. And ALL
have the right to go directly to the throne Hebrews 4:16 & Ephesians 3:12.
- Parable 20 – The pounds (Luke 19:11-27):
o v11: Jesus was telling these parables to His disciples while they were on their way to Jerusalem, and Jesus predicted that they would kill him there.
o Ten men each got one pound (one Word of God) and had to go out and make a profit (save souls). Many of the 10 managed to save souls, and each was appointed by God to rule over cities in heaven, because they were faithful in the few pounds on earth. But one guy wasn't going to make any profit, nor did he even try to earn interest by lending the pound to money changers (give help to others who can spread the Word) … He did absolutely NOTHING with his pound (his one Word of God) not. Then the Word that he also had then (JOHANNES 3:5), was taken from him and given to the one with the most profit, because he worked the HARDEST!
Because you cannot put God's Word under a bucket Luke 11:33. YOU MUST MAKE IT
SHINE BRIGHTLY BEFORE EVERYONE Matthew 5:16! By WORKS! Works are IMPORTANT James 2:17!!! One pound was 3 months’ salary for the Jews at the time.
o God also makes it clear in the last verse v27 that if you don't like God's righteous judgment Isaiah 31:8, it's just tough luck for you. If you do not accept God's judgment and rule Revelation 11:15, you will die Revelation 20:14.
o Jesus speaks of Himself here as the man who distributed the 10 pounds. Because Jesus gave the Word to His disciples. Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem (from Jericho) to be killed (to receive His heavenly kingship), just like this man with the pounds. And Jesus is going to come back one day and ask us what we have done with our pounds (the Word in our hand)! Do you have a good answer?
o It is very similar to the parable of the 10 talents in Matthew 25:14-30, but it will be discussed in more detail later, with Mark 13.

The Jesus Series - Student Guide
More about the question of the sons of Zebedee (v32-45): o Jesus sits at God's right hand. Matthew 26:64 (& Psalm 110:1, 5, Mark 16:19, Luke 22:69, Acts 2:33, 7:55), etc.
o The right hand of God is a symbol of power. All the power and might and glory of God, equally belong to the one who sits at God's right hand. Genesis 48:14-19, Exodus 15:6, Isaiah 23:11, 41:10, 45:1, Revelation 1:16-17, etc.
o The sons of Zebedee could NOT sit on Jesus' left hand, because that is where God sits, and if the sons sit there, it takes away Jesus' authority as ruler of God's kingdom.
o The sons of Zebedee could NOT sit at Jesus' right hand, because it was planned for someone else (perhaps the Holy Spirit), but the Bible does not tell us who will sit there. The only way we can guess that the Holy Spirit is sitting here is because Jesus sits at God's right hand and PRAYS for us in Romans 8:34, and the Holy Spirit is also described as one who PRAYS for us in Romans 8:26, so possibly the Holy Spirit prays at JESUS's right hand, and Jesus prays at GOD's right hand.
o If we want to think outside the box about this:
- When we die IN JESUS, we are part of Jesus and therefore sit WITH Jesus at God's right hand and rule Revelation 3:21.
- When we accept Jesus we get the Holy Spirit in us, and when the rapture happens the bride of Jesus (all of us who have the Holy Spirit) will therefore also possibly sit with the Holy Spirit (the bride of Jesus) at Jesus' right-hand. WOW! 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, Ephesians 5:25-27, Revelation 19:7-9, 21:2, & Revelation Series.
- The Bible also mentions that we will sit on 12 thrones (quite possibly with the 24 elders) to rule with Jesus in Matthew 19:28 & Luke 22:30.
- The point is that all of us who believe in Jesus will put Him on thrones together.
o According to the Bible, no one currently sits at God the Father's left hand. Stephen (Acts 7:59) saw heaven, and he only spoke of Jesus at the RIGHT hand of God. He said nothing about anyone being at God's left-hand Acts 7:55.
o King Solomon wanted to give his mother the highest honor, and so he put her on his right hand in 1
Kings 2:19.
o For interest:
- Roughly 90% of the entire world's population use their right hand. Almost always, your writing hand (most people's right hand) is also the strong hand.
- The hands are just SYMBOLS! There is NOTHING wrong with the left hand. The right hand speaks of power and strength and honor, but the left hand speaks of exactly the same thing, if it is your strong hand.
- Wherever the Bible speaks of people who were “left-handed”, it is never seen as a weak hand, but rather as someone with a great advantage. Ehud was a tremendous warrior in Judges 3:15-21, and he was left-handed. In Judges 20:16 there were 700 warriors who could all accurately throw slings with the left hand. In 1 Chronicles 12:2 there were archers who could work with both hands.
- The baptism of Jesus spoken of here in Mark 10 was discussed in Mark 1.

LISTENING LESSON & CONVERSATION ON MARK 10

TASK - THERAPY FOR THE CHRISTIAN
“Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; The labor of the olive shall fail, And the fields shall yield no meat; The flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation. The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places.” – HABAKUK
3:17-19 KJV
In this task, write all the things that can perish in your own life... In other words, make a list of all the things that you can do without and with which you will still rejoice in the Lord. But it's important to write this list down very slowly and sit and think about every single word you write down. Think carefully and calmly about what you write. Fill the page.
For example: Even if my friends never call me again, and even if I lose my job, and even if I get sick or go blind, etc.

MARK 11 – ANOTHER PARABLE, JESUS ON A DONKEY IN THE CITY, THE FIG TREE, AND THE BAPTISM
Why did Jesus ride a donkey? Why did people throw their clothes and branches of trees under the donkey? How can you bless heaven? What does Hosanna mean? What does the dry fig tree mean? Can we have shops in the church? Can we forgive without telling the person? Was the baptism of John from heaven or from men?
Read Mark 11.
In chapter 11 we learn four important things. We see how Jesus went into Jerusalem for His nearing crucifixion, and we learn what happens to those who do not bear fruit. We find out what the church's real purpose is & see how Jesus answers people's tricky questions. We see how fit Jesus & His disciples were.
Entry of Jesus into Jerusalem (v1-11): Also in Matthew 21:1-11, Luke 19:29-42, & John 12:12-15.
o Notice they’re still walking to Jerusalem, all the way from Caesarea-Philippi (at Mount Hermon in Damascus today) Mark 8:27 ________ far, through Galilee to Capernaum another ________ further in Mark 9:30 & 33. Then they walked ________ to the Jordan River, and then ________ into Judea Mark 10:1, still heading into Jerusalem Mark 10:33. Then they came to Jericho, about ______ away from Judea in Mark 10:46. Then they still walked _____ until near Jerusalem, at the Mount of Olives into Bethphage and Bethany Mark 11:1. And there were still villages before them, still about _____, before Jerusalem, in Mark 11:2. Finally Jesus is in Jerusalem, in Mark 11:11. It's almost ________!
o Zechariah 9:9 Predicts it! The disciples only realized later, in John 12:23 & Luke 24:45.
o Luke 19:40 God tells us that the word WILL come to pass, even if there is not one soul left on earth!
The withered fig tree. The cleansing of the temple (v12-26): o Hosea 9:10 & Joel 1:7 In the Bible the fig tree is also ____________________.
o Full of words, but without the fruit that comes from ____________________! Hebrews 11:6
o Jesus loves Julius Malema JUST AS MUCH as us! Who are we to hate sinners Romans 5:8?
- What would YOU do if Jesus asked Julius to eat with him tonight?
o In Parable 11 in the homework, Jesus says that the sinners are before His disciples, because they (the gentiles, the sinners outside Jerusalem) accepted Jesus through the mouth of John, while His own disciples (Jews in Jerusalem) did NOT believe in Jesus not even until the end, while they heard the Word “from the horse's mouth”. They could not even cast out a spirit in Mark 9:18.
o In v17 is the real purpose of the church!!! The purpose of the church is ____________________!
The baptism of John (v27-33):
o Jesus has no time for people with cunning plans, they will remain in the dark. You can only give up and become honest before God. Jesus basically told the Pharisees to go to the VERY beginning of the “Good News Gospel” that John preached. Let them go and drink milk first before they could try to eat Jesus' solid food. And this was a stern warning from Deuteronomy 6:16-17.
o To answer the question that the Pharisees could not answer: Isaiah 40:1-3 (John from God!) o To answer the Pharisees' question that Jesus did not want to give: Daniel 7:13-15 (Jesus from God!)

HOMEWORK – TO READ
About the parables:
o Parables that happen between Mark 11 & 12 in the other gospels:
- Parable 21 - The two sons (Matthew 21:28-32):
▪ The question at Matthew 21:31 is very important: “Which of the two has - DONE -
the will of the Father”?!
▪ Jesus speaks sternly to His disciples in Matthew 21:32 because during all the parables and miracles the disciples continued to doubt that Jesus was really who He said He was.
▪ This incredible parable explains itself! We must DO ACTIONS OF FAITH - DO - DO –
DO so that our faith may come alive, and we get saved! The mouth does not count AT ALL!!! What you say does not count AT ALL, without works!!! We will often fall into weakness, but we must RISE and carry on, for Christ's sake!
Further on the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem (the palm branches): o Jesus came into the city on the donkey one week before His resurrection, as we will find out later.
o Before the peace of Jesus' resurrection, there was first the war of His body (the cross).
- It was so foretold in the Old Testament books. See 1 Kings 1:33 & Zechariah 9:9-10.
- Kings ride HORSES in war, or DONKEYS in peace Judges 5:10, 10:4, 12:14, & 2 Samuel 16:2.
- Look at how awesome God is: The scriptures predicted in detail, even Jesus' entry into Jerusalem on a Donkey, WAY back in Zechariah 9:9, but Jesus kept it from their minds, so that the disciples only realized it later, in John 12:23 & Luke 24:45, after Jesus' resurrection.
At the right time, God will show you everything you need to know as you go on your journey with God. God will show you everything, if you seek and keep knocking 2 Corinthians 4:3-5
& Jeremiah 33:3!
- Israel is God's fig tree, and God expects it to have not only words (leaves), but deeds (fruit).
- On the thought of Julius Malema... Many people are quick to point a finger and judge... But have you ever stopped for a moment and thought that sinners, just like Matthew, are God's honored guests? God has hope that everyone receives healing from Jesus. Have you ever seen all the sadness, uncertainty, and fear in Julius Malema's eyes when he appears on TV?
Have you ever thought of praying for him? Maybe it does a LOT more, than hate...
o Palm Sunday is a Christian festival that we celebrate one week before Jesus rose from the dead, to remember how He was brought humbly into the city on a Donkey. So, it's first Palm (Sunday), then Good (Friday), then Easter (Sunday), then later comes Ascension Day. Palm Sunday in 2025 is on April 13.
o So, in 2025 it is:
- Palm Sunday 13 April → Jesus rides into the city on a donkey.
- Good Friday 18 April → Jesus is crucified.
- Easter Sunday 20 April → Jesus' resurrection (Easter), exactly 1 week after Palm Sunday.
- See Chapter 17 (Mark 15)'s homework for an in-depth open breakdown of the entire calendar.
o Palm Sunday is before God a way to receive a king with great honor. God said that HUMILITY will reign one day Luke 14:11-14 & Matthew 5:3, 5 & 10! There was a similar case in the Old 92
The Jesus Series - Student Guide
Testament, in 2 Kings 9:13, then now here with Jesus, and there is a prediction in Revelation 7:9
that says that all of us will one day hold palm-tree branches before Jesus.
o Think about this... In Mark 11:10-11 the whole crowd sang the “Hosanna” song and wanted to crown Jesus as their earthly king. They did not understand that Jesus did not come to rule on earth, but to deliver everyone from the earth FOREVER one day, and rule in heaven. Just one week later the people changed their song from Hosanna to: “CRUCIFY HIM!” in Matthew 27:22-23. Why?
Could it be that their eyes were suddenly opened, and they understood that Jesus had to be crucified, like the predictions in the Old Testament? Or did they not know and just turned against Jesus? Were they perhaps afraid of the Romans who crucified Jesus, and perhaps they all just out of fear with the group denied Jesus like Peter? Something to think about... Just as God tells us to pray for peace in Israel. LITTLE-KNOWING we are actually praying for the end of the world to happen!
Why? Because right now there is conflict in Israel. As soon as peace comes, Revelation predicts the end of the old things! Learn the Revelation Series for more.
o God seeks peace for all, and especially in Israel. Pray for it! Psalm 122:6, Genesis 12:3, John 14:27, 20:20-22, Philippians 4:7 & Psalm 23.

Sometimes we tell someone something from the Bible, and soon after they will ask you: “Where does it say in the Bible?” Stop feeling guilty if you can't remember where your verses are. You can say to that person,
“Get a Bible and look it up yourself.” Because it will do them good, or “Have you ever heard of Google?”
Maybe at some point that person will also tell you something that is in the Bible, and then you can also ask him/her “Where does it say in the Bible?”. Stop feeling guilty. Have you ever realized when someone is reading a book, and you ask them what page something happened on, that NO ONE can remember? Think about it: You can read a romantic story where a woman throws her long hair out of a high window for the man to climb up to get to her... Everyone who has read the book knows exactly what happened ... But dare and save the book and then ask the person: “On which page did the woman throw her hair out for the man?” No one is going to know. In the old days the Bible was not numbered. It had no chapter and verse numbers, so not even Jesus ever preached from the Bible and then told the people exactly where He read it. He always said something like: “Jeremiah wrote...” or “Moses wrote of me...” or “It is also written...” or
“It is also in the scriptures that...” And it says here: Matthew 4:4, 7, Luke 4:8, 10, 21:22, John 5:46, 8:17, 12:14, & Deuteronomy 6:16, 8:3. So you can see that it is important to know WHAT the Bible says... Not WHERE the Bible says it. And that's true even if you have to cast out the devil. No one will ever remember this, so stop feeling guilty and instead tell the guy you're talking to Luke 10:26.

THE ROAD MAPS OF JESUS' JOURNEYS
We learn a lot about the important places of the Bible and where they are from the Revelation series. Here are the two most important country maps of the Revelation series, and where Israel fits into them.
