The Bus
The Bus to Nowhere and Everywhere
The dream begins in a foggy depot where the clocks hands always hang loosely together at the 6, and the announcements are spoken in riddles. A person; neither young nor old, named only by the feeling of déjà vu, boards a bus with windows that show different scenes depending on where you sit. They choose the middle seat, where the view flickers between a childhood backyard and a city they've never visited.
The driver is a flamingo in a conductor's cap, who nods solemnly and says; "Tickets are memories. Pay with one you've forgotten." The dreamer reaches into their coat and pulls out a paper crane folded from a love letter they never sent. The flamingo accepts it with a wink and the bus lurches forward-not along a road, but across a river of light.
Passengers include:
A woman reading a book that rewrites itself every time she turns the page.
A man whose suitcase hums lullabies.
A child who speaks only in palindromes.
