Wonder Woman interrogating a vending machine shaped like a lie detector.
She brought her findings to her mother, who raised an eyebrow and said, “Sounds like a Navy prank.” But Lila knew better. This was no prank—it was a protocol. A ritual. A test.
She returned the next day with a notebook and a plan. She pressed “Lemon-Lime,” then “Cola,” then kicked the machine gently. Out popped a can with a strange fizzing sound and a label that read; “Operation Fizzgig: Initiated.”
Suddenly, the machine lit up. A hidden compartment opened, revealing a reel to reel tape marked “For Eyes Trained by Comics Only.” Lila took it home and played it on her father’s projector. The tape showed grainy footage of superheroes in trench coats, sipping sodas and whispering about “The Great Syrup Sabotage.”
Lila knew she’d stumbled onto something big. She began documenting everything; the codes, the flavors, the fizz patterns. She called it The Cola Codex.
And though the adults dismissed it as nonsense, Lila knew the truth. Somewhere beneath the PX, beneath the soda machine, beneath the very island itself, a secret society of comic reading operatives was preparing for the day they’d need her.
