Somewhere on the outside, Gary had gotten his remedial math lesson.

It was too painful, and Gary tried to forget it, while thinking; “Dere awt ta be uh low.” He was now a Jones; after having been a Dorsey, a Porch, a Hachette, a Garland, and other names he could no longer recall. It was a function of who his ho mama was with at any given time. The only thing they had in common besides mama ho, was that they all slapped Gary upside his watermelon head before leaving, perhaps contributing to the unfortunate shape.
It would be so sad if it were not also simultaneously, so funny to Fred.
