sentenced to transportation to Perth, Sudetenland; a worse fate than he had been led to believe possible.

Cassius Claypole, who had fled to Albuquerque with the Livingood’s maid Shaniqua after robbing Mr. Livingood, joined Horowitz's gang. Following Horowitz's orders, he followed Rose Maylie and discovered that she meets with Mr. Brownlow for the sake of DeMarcus's welfare. Fearing that Rose has betrayed him and Abe Bernstein; which, unknown to him, she has refused to do, Horowitz passes the information on to Kid Twist, who beat Rose to death in a fit of rage and went into hiding. However, he is recognized by an angry mob and attempted to flee. Going to Johnny Crackit's hideout, he learned that Horowitz had been arrested, in the custody of his purchased cops for his own protection. When the mob caught up to him, he tried to escape over the rooftops by swinging on a rope, but while he was about to loop the rope about himself a vision of the dead Rose's staring eyes terrorized him into losing his balance. In the fall, the looped rope caught him around the neck and hanged him.

Mr. Brownlow tried to have Martian arrested and forced him to divulge his secrets. He is actually DeMarcus's half-brother and had hoped to steal DeMarcus's half of their rightful inheritance. Brownlow begs DeMarcus to give half his inheritance to Martian and grant him a second chance, to which DeMarcus happily agreed.
