Big John was well off and didn’t need the work. He balked, but younger Steve cut in and verbally agreed to Weintraub’s terms. He didn’t really expect to fulfill them, but he thought he was smart enough to keep the income stream going, while fooling Weintraub into thinking he was being usefully innocuous, like any Republican investigatory entity.
