Steve bolted out and said; “All right, all right. Jeez.”
Big John said; “We got work.”
“Buncha drunks.”
“What?”
“The Replacements.”
“Hokey dokey.” In a falsetto voice, he crooned; “Speak and the world is full of singing, and I’m winging higher than a bird. ..... “
That ended the conversation.
The deeper they went, the more dangerous the case became. A whistleblower turned up missing, their temporary office was ransacked, and a shadowy figure warned them to back off. But the boys from the Rye Detective Agency didn’t scare easily.
