High Bridge Continued
Hiram finally “found” the train station just as the last train departed. He parked in the dirt lot and ran up the stairs to no avail.
He was disappointed, but concurrently understood that things could be much worse. He could drive back home, call in sick, and have the rest of the day off.
On his way back to his car and the dirt lot he noticed that “The Cracker Barrel” was open. It was still early to go home, and letting some time pass for the snow to melt some wouldn’t hurt. Hiram always liked the place anyway.
Nostalgia greeted him at the door. When one first approaches the establishment, it's like walking into a cozy slice of Americana. Before you even enter, rows of wooden rocking chairs line the porch, inviting guests to sit and sway. There are checkerboards set up on barrels for a leisurely game. Just past the entrance, you're greeted by the Old Country Store; a retail space brimming with vintage style candy, home décor, seasonal trinkets, and quirky gifts. It smells faintly of cinnamon and wood polish, like a well-loved general store from decades past.
