If one of them ever asked her outright what she thought of them, she'd smile and say, "I respect your position." Then she'd go back to building something far more enduring than appearances.
Scene: Rooftop Mixer, Sunset Drinks
On top of a high-rise, swathed in soft amber light; Jolene, in a tailored blazer and vintage earrings, stood with three polished associates discussing their new tech venture.
Landon, smirked: "I think our brand is all about prestige, you know? Exclusivity sells. We're basically curating aspiration."
Jolene, smiled faintly: "Mmmmmm. Nothing says 'aspiration' like four white guys and a logo with Latin text."
Landon, laughed nervously: "You're joking, right?"
Jolene: "Mostly. Although I do wonder if we're solving problems or just decorating them."
Her tone is breezy, but her eyes stay locked on his reaction like she's measuring wind speed for the inevitable storm.
