CHAPTER TWENTY

ALI'S BIRTH

Zac and Alex attended the birth of their child. Both delivering the baby and cutting the umbilical cord together.

IT WAS A GIRL

“Do you want to hold her” asked Zac looking at their surrogate who had just gone through twelve hours of labour.

“No my job is done, love her with all your hearts” she replied smiling at both of them.

Both Zac and Alex hadn't wanted to know the sex of their child, just as they had not wanted to know which one of them was the biological Father. Only wanting a healthy child, both praying each night that would be the case.

They left the birthing room with Zac handing the baby to his Mother announcing it was a girl.

“Well hello there, I am your Grandma and what's your name?”

Looking ten foot tall Zac said “Her name is Alice Summer Dawson, Ali for short.”

For a moment Jane looked like a deer caught in the headlights and reminded herself to breathe.

“Really you are calling her Alice? Jesus I don't know what to say, I am just so overwhelmed, I have no words” said Jane.

Summer handed Ali over to Jane saying “Well here are some words you might use, say hello to your Niece.”

Two weeks later Jane and Summer were giving Ali a bath.

“Can I ask you a question Summer?” asked Jane.

“Always open to questions, but I am not sure I can give the answer you want to hear simply because what I say will be the truth, and in a lot of cases people prefer not to hear that” said Summer.

Hearing that statement Jane decided to forge ahead anyway. “Does it bother you that Zac called his Daughter Alice? After all, considering it is my Mother's name was it perhaps a little too close to the bone for you?”

“Wow don't you overthink Jane. Zac and Alex were both in complete agreeance that if it was a girl her name would be Alice. I think that Zac wanted to incorporate your Mother in to this family in some way and I think he did a very good job. Personally I think it was a very thoughtful thing to do on his part and I truly have no issue with it.”

“Your Son is a good man” said Jane.

“Adorable, I am a very lucky woman” said Summer.
