CHAPTER THIRTEEN
MOTHER'S DAY
A week passed and Zac rang Jane letting her know that the next Sunday was Mother's Day and that he was holding it as his place.
“Bring your overnight bag and essentials, we can make a day of it. I know you are sooooooo busy but surely even you can take a Sunday off?”
“Don't you want to spend it with your Mum. I might be out of place, after all she is not my Mother” Jane said a little anxiously.
“Don't be silly. If Mum and Dad had tied the knot she would have been your Stepmother, that's as close as to a Mum you can get.”
Jane declared to her PA Michael she was invited to Mother's Day.
“I mean what should I take, she is not my Mother. It would be just plain weird to give her something. How about flowers? That usually gets you a door pass for everything doesn't it?”
Michael said “First of all calm yourself. Flowers are out of the question but a nice little cheese platter with bickies would be appropriate. Do not take one of the over the top hampers we receive on a regular basis from people trying to suck up to us just so that they can get a article in our glorified magazine. Keep it simple.”
Driving to Zac's place Jane had a feeling of driving towards family, which gave her a warm tinge in her heart, something she had never truly experienced before.
She arrived at Zac's place with just a cheese platter and biscuits but also a huge smile on her face.
Summer answered the door holding an excitable Louie.
“I was hoping you would come Jane, I really wanted to see you. Also a big thanks for talking to Zac, it helped heal the wounds between us. Since meeting you I have become aware of feelings I never even knew I had. I suddenly realised that for a long time I had wanted to reach out to you, particularly after your Mother's sad demise, but felt it was impossible to do so. Oh Jesus here I go on blabbering and you haven't even got your foot in the front door.”
Jane and Summer gave each other a close hug with Louie treating himself to whatever delights he could find in between them.
