From the Author

This was the hardest and easiest book I’ve written yet.

I know that’s a loaded sentence.

It was hard because I had to revive it from the ashes. Scratch that. God revived it. I was all but through with writing. I just felt like I had made a good go of it for ten-plus years and that being a writer was no longer my calling. Maybe it never had been in the first place.

I had become a Christian at this point. I sure as heck wasn’t going to write Christian romance novels. So what did I have any business being a writer anymore if everything I wrote had to be so sticky-sweet?

God reminded me that not everything that’s labeled Christian is about following Him. Maybe there was room in the market for characters who’ve seen their worst days and were about to see their best.

They just didn’t know it yet.

So, I had to dig through a lot of foul language (I used to be a sucker for the “f” word) and allow God to take the reins on this one. It was no longer about me writing the best thing since sliced bread just so my name would be the one seeking glory.

It became giving all the glory to Christ. Period. And for that reason, it was the easiest thing I’ve ever had to do.

We convolute this life. We want to ask a million questions when really there’s only one we need to ask:

Are you for Him or are you against Him?

I want nothing but to be for Him. I want it more than I want to be a writer. I want it more than the breath in my lungs. Tomorrow will fall away but my love for Him won’t.

Because I’ve finally realized, this isn’t about me anymore.

Note: This is a fictional interpretation of what I believe Christ would observe in the situations presented in this book. I don’t pretend to be Him or to receive any sort of special word from Him. I just opened my heart and asked Him what he needed me to write because I know the Holy Spirit had a book in store for me. I wholeheartedly believe everyone needs to read the Bible for themselves. Not a devotional. Not the regurgitated understanding of Scripture by someone who claims to be an authority figure. Read the Bible for YOURSELF. Do it. You will not regret it. And if you have any questions at all about following Jesus or feel you need to reach out for any reason, please contact me at ericka.clay@outlook.com. I will do my very best to get back to you in a timely manner.
