He didn't throw 100 MPH. He didn't hit 450 foot homers. He didn't fight with Ty Cobb. He didn't die young or tragically.
He was simply brilliant. And brilliance without spectacle fades.
Mordecai Brown is overlooked because baseball remembers stories, not statistics, and his story was never packaged into a myth.
He deserves better. He belongs in the conversation with the absolute best pitchers in history; in this writer’s opinion at the top of the list. If he had pitched in the radio era, or the TV era, or the analytics era, he'd be a household name.
