Johnny Mize – All Five Years
Johnny Mize was born on Tuesday, January 7, 1913, in Demorest, Georgia. Mize was 23 years old when he broke into the big leagues on April 16, 1936, with the St. Louis Cardinals, thereby spending his prime years in a ballpark notoriously difficult to hit in. He holds a few team batting records, while Stan Musial, Rogers Hornsby, and Jesse Burkett hold the bulk of them.
"Mize was one of the really outstanding hitters in baseball history. Every place he played, from the time he started to play baseball till the time he quit, he was a premier hitter. When he ambled up to the plate, people expected big things because he made things happen. I always thought he was one of the very best." - Ted Williams.
