Tigers: Stealthy Felines

The tiger is a solitary apex predator, known for its camouflage and extraordinary hunting techniques. Native to Asia, it plays a big role in maintaining food webs.
Anatomy:
Tigers sport powerful, muscular bodies, with a robust build and elongated limbs designed for stalking and sprinting. Outstanding is their coat—bright orange with black stripes. Their retractable claws aid in capturing prey, while their sharp teeth and strong jaws ensure a lethal grip. Its long, unfringed tail helps with balance during quick movements, while its large paws are adapted for silently passing through dense vegetation.
Evolution:
Tigers evolved from early carnivores in the Panthera genus around 2 million years ago. Fossil evidence shows that early tigers, like the saber-toothed cat, adapted over time into the larger, more powerful animals we see today. Over time, they diverged from lions, developing a solitary lifestyle. Tigers' specialized predation techniques, like ambushing prey from close quarters, were paramount in their evolutionary development.
Interesting Facts
- Tigers can leap up to 10 meters in a single bound.
- Each tiger’s stripe pattern is unique, much like human fingerprints.
- Despite their size, tigers are excellent swimmers and often hunt in water.
