Stu nodded. Annie sat and there was a silence between them for awhile. Then Stu got curious,

‘What happened to your parents?’

‘Eh, well… They are not here,’ Annie sighed. ‘Won’t you ask about my parents?’ Stu broke the silence again.

‘No. It is obvious you don’t want to talk about it,’ replied Annie.

Silence again. Annie was trying to think of a way to keep the conversation going on and in the end she went for the only topic they had in common, ‘How is the song?’

Stu perked up a bit, ‘I've finished it. Now I'm writing another one.’

‘What's it called?’

‘This World Is You and I’.

‘You mean 'The World’s In Your Eyes'.

‘I beg your pardon?’

‘Yes, you have a song like this. I mean, you have… to have a song like this.’

‘Why?’

‘OK, sing it! Sing it, please!’

Stu found it so hard to believe hat this girl really seemed to be interested in his stuff that he didn’t even have the time to object. He started singing a nice, joyful melody and Annie started to beat the time with her hand. Somewhere in the middle Stu stopped and said,

‘Well, here I haven’t figured out the text yet.’ He continued just humming it but what was his surprise when Annie began to sing along also including the lyrics and finishing the musical phrase with ‘The world’s in your eyes’ which fitted only too perfectly just as she had predicted it.

‘See,’ she said, ‘you are short of one syllable here and it fits the music like a hand to a glove!’

Stu was shocked, ‘You are doing it again! I mean – you just did it again! Have you ever studied music or singing?’

‘Oh, you'd better not ask!’ Annie knit her eyebrows.

‘Why?’

‘Because I hated it. They wanted me to sing and I hated it.’

‘But music – it is always so beautiful. You know music doesn't belong to this world. It is…’ Stu stopped searching for the right word but Annie finished instead of him.

‘Cosmic?’

‘Am I boring you?’

‘No! Not at all. I only wanted to say that your music is even more beautiful. You can believe me. I know this for a fact.’

Stu was stunned, ‘And you are not bored when we’re talking about it?’

‘No! Why should I?’ Annie laughed.
