Friday evening at the bar was the busiest time of the week. There was nothing else but lots of people, lots of orders and lots of serving. Annie was doing it pretty well this time. She only had one little accident when she turned over a tray with drinks. Later in the night when the bar closed at about 3 am they were sitting with Jessie in the kitchen, eating sandwiches. They both were tired and didn’t speak for a while before Annie broke the silence, ‘Jessie?’
‘Eh?’
‘Don’t you think that this bar needs some music?’
‘There’s the jukebox.’
‘I mean live music.’
‘How did you come up with an idea like that? It’s so noisy here anyway.’
‘Still… Do you think I can have a talk with Louie?’
‘You may try, if nothing else!’
Annie rose from her chair and went inside the bar where Louie was still cleaning the tables.
‘Louie?’
‘Eh?’
‘Don’t you think that this bar needs some music?’
‘There’s the jukebox.’
‘I mean live music.’
‘How did you come up with an idea like that?’
‘So much for the diversity on Earth,’ Annie thought. There had always been a very big argument in the universe if the humans were all too different or were all the same. End of the dispute for now. She’d tell them how to up-date their database.
‘People will be glad if there’s live music,’ she continued but Louie interrupted her, ‘My girl, you refuse to listen to me. I don’t have money! How do I pay the musicians?’
‘What if you don’t pay?’
‘How come I won’t? Such people don’t grow on the trees, see!’ Louie snapped at her but, had already pricked up his ears.
‘I will talk to this guy. He’s in our college and he’s very, very good,’ said Annie. ‘If he agrees, will you take him to play here for you?’
‘What am I supposed to take him for?’ Louie was still resisting.
‘Not for money anyway!’ grinned Annie.
