‘Sure.’ He said with more enthusiasm than he wished, but this was such a good occasion to spend some more time with her. They headed together. For awhile they just walked the corridor in silence, then Annie asked, ‘Aaron, what happened today?’
‘What do you mean?’
‘I mean the lecture. I… We…’
Aaron smiled, ‘Yeah, like in the good ol’ times.’
Annie felt uneasy. She still firmly believed that she had arrived just two days before and not having even basic memories of her Earth life before that made her feel well as this proved the Boss had really prepared things in advance for her but also made her feel bad as she seemed to be the only one who was lacking those memories. For some reason Aaron also felt there was something wrong with her but he thought that was just because he mentioned the times they had been together. That’s why he just stopped walking and turned straight to Annie, ‘Annie, I think…,’ he blushed. ‘I think that you are very talented. And it is not just this. It’s been awhile since I’ve been trying to tell you this. I think you are a wonderful girl. Not only because you are the best in class, but also because you are really special. Whenever I look at your face I see it radiates with a light of its own – just like a star does.’ (Annie stood there gaping. How does HE know?) ‘All those freckles of yours look like the entire Milky Way has been painted upon your face.’ –
(Now the question was WHAT did he know?) ‘Annie, would you come with me to the ball?’
‘The ball? What ball?’ Annie murmured. She was so confused.
‘Annie, I know that you are shy but we’re having the annual ball real soon. May I have the pleasure of being your partner?’
Annie was trying hard to recall what in fact had happened this afternoon. She had gone for a walk with Jessie, then all of the sudden she was drawing sketches like crazy, then for some reason everybody was very happy for her and Aaron, and now this boy whom she had met just once before had told her all the details of her origin and also had asked her to dance. Aaron noticed that she was hesitant and added softly, ‘You don’t need to give me an answer right away. Take your time. Think it over, but I’ll be very glad if you accept.’
