‘Yes, Sir!’

‘Now, go! Go! Back to work!’

And he released her without further ado but right before she exited Annie stopped by the door.

‘Sir?’ (This time Louie simply blushed.) ‘May I ask you something? What did that boy want?’

‘What boy?’

‘The one who talked with you at the bar door.’

‘A-ah, him! He wanted to play music here. I said, I don’t dig money, see? Where do I get the money to pay him, huh? Ok – enough – go back to work!’ And he just lighted another cigarette.

On the next morning, when Annie woke up, she was still with her last night’s clothes on, and couldn’t remember when she got home, or that she got a cab with Jessie because it was raining, or the whole ride back. She simply fell asleep on the back seat dead tired. However, she remembered the lightening and the thunder - her first encounter with the atmospheric varieties on this strange blue planet, which later on, she’d describe as ‘the caprices of the ozone stratum’. While lying awake in her bed with eyes staring at the ceiling and trying to recall the physics definition of the lightening as an atmospheric

discharge of electricity with temperatures up to 30,000 C, she started to her feet. If the speed of light could ever be reached by a human being at that moment Annie was almost there. She took over the bathroom as a natural cataclysm and she laughed happily, sincerely and long during all the time she spent brushing her teeth. Then she took a full advantage of the shower – she had experienced this before in the form of star dust showers and she liked it but there had never been such a fairy-scene of drops, and life, and beauty, and rainbows there. Annie had always had affection for the so called water planets such as Neptune, patronizing the seas, the Moon, patronizing the tides, and Pluto, but now she could be officially proclaimed a water-baby. In two hours when she finally finished her water fiesta, she was fresh, in a great mood and ready for her next mission, ‘Now I’ve got to find ‘breakfast’! Not that I know what ‘breakfast’ is but I’ve got to be strict with the local schedule. So I must do a search here.’
