Chapter 2
A few doors away, Gizmo had not strayed from his computer screen since Christmas morning when his grandest wish had come true. His parents, Barney and Clara, came through once again, getting him both the “Resident Evil 7: Biohazard” cartridge AND
the 1024 bit, 4096KB Nintendo 4DS, for a maximum, four screen visual experience. Whenever tiresomely and inconveniently necessary, he slept, out of fatigue rather than a reasonable conception of any semblance of choice, right next to the setup, oblivious to whatever might be happening in the ridiculously superfluous parts of the world.

He may have put on a few pounds. But he was excited. He was still young, a beginner, and getting better at “Resident Evil 7: Biohazard” every day. He was already ranked at #238,516 in the entire world, and that number was getting smaller every time he checked it.

Barney and Clara were becoming more than a little concerned about Gizmo, as they previously had had no idea whatsoever as to the level of Gizmo’s inability to occasionally remove himself from the seductive cyber world. Because they wanted to have given Gizmo Christmas presents he liked, they had hoped for and expected a short term infatuation, like with all loved toys, but with his complete fixation they were now concerned about a harmful addiction rather than any sort of innocuous infatuation.
They knew that they could end it whenever they chose to, but also realized that in doing so they would likely increase Gizmo’s attachment, in the typical, ascendant, and sometimes not so petty rebellion in a personal or family sense. Lines can be difficult to draw, even with the aid of a cyber drawing program.
They were playing it by wary ear, hoping for a voluntary and customarily foreseeable degree of Gizmo disenchantment with
“Resident Evil 7.”

Much like ones observing a loved crack addict without the
“benefit” of having had personal experience in the process, Barney and Clara were on an unfamiliar, hazardous territory.
