WHAT DOES 1 CORINTHIANS 3:13-15 REFER TO?

image

1Corinthians 3:13-15

13 The work of each one will be made manifest; for the day will declare it, for by fire it will be revealed; and the work of each one whatever it may be, fire will test.

14 If the work of anyone who has built on it continues, he shall receive a reward.

15 If anyone's work is burned, he will suffer loss, but he himself will be saved, even though it will be saved by fire.

EXPLANATION: It is not good to take a verse out of context, it is important to know what Paul was saying before mentioning this portion, from verse 5 Paul explains that people are only servants by whom other people came to the feet of Christ, as servants of God we must take the word to others by the grace that God has assigned to each one,  Then in verse 6 it speaks of them only carrying the word:

  1. Sowing: when a person knew nothing about the gospel and it is new to him/her.
  2. Watering: when this person already knew and continues to fill himself with more knowledge. (Consolidation and affirmation in the word)

For the word is a seed (like the parable of the sower that Jesus mentioned).

But it is God who gives the growth, that is, it is he who prospers what he commands his servants to do.

In verse 7, Paul specifies that the people who proclaim the gospel are only people, they are not important, he goes on to say: "the only important one is God who makes it grow." We do not do things to boast, but the glory is God's.

Verse 8 says that both the sower and the waterer are equal, and each will be rewarded according to his own work (like the parable of the talents).

As for the offerings that we can present to God, they can be like gold and precious stones, which do persevere in the fire, or, our works can be like straw, wood and stubble that are works that do not prevail over the fire, that is, they are burned.
