BINDING AND LOOSING

image

(SPIRITUAL WEAPONS.)

Binding and loosing is part of the authority that Christ has delegated to His Church as part of the team of spiritual weapons against the forces of darkness.

(Christ empowers His Church and gives it authority, 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 "For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty in God for the breaking down of strongholds, casting down arguments and every lofty thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought captive to the obedience of Christ,")

There is no doubt that Jesus in Matthew 12:29 "For how can anyone enter the house of a strong man, and plunder his goods, unless he first binds him? And then he will be able to plunder his house." Jesus speaks in this verse of spiritual warfare.

When Jesus says in verse 29, "For how can anyone enter the house of the strong man, and plunder his goods, if HE DOES NOT FIRST BIND HIM? and then he can loot his house."

This verse is telling us that the leading demon in someone's soul must be bound, or subdued, and in doing so there will be no hindrance to plunder the rest of the demons that dwell in the soul.

The Greek word deh-o, which means to bind, is used in Matthew 18:18 and Matthew 12:29, therefore, Matthew 18:18 tells us that "binding" refers not to people but to the devil.

So it is necessary to obey what the Lord says about binding the devil (i.e., his demons).

When we bind the enemy in Jesus' name, we are acting in accordance with the authority Jesus gave us in Luke 10:19 "Behold, I give you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over every strength of the enemy, and nothing will harm you."

UNLEASHING

Matthew 18:18 says, "... And whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."

The word UNTIE means TO SET THE CAPTIVES FREE.

By means of the ministry of deliverance the captives are loosed from their bonds in the likeness of the bent woman of

Luke 13:11-16

"11 And there was a woman there who had had a sickening spirit for eighteen years, and was bent over, and could not straighten herself up at all.

12 When Jesus saw her, he called her and said to her, "Woman, you are free from your infirmity."

13 And he laid his hands on her; and she straightened up at once, and glorified God.

14 But the ruler of the synagogue, angry that Jesus had healed on the Sabbath day, said to the crowd, "There are six days in which work is to be done; In these, therefore, come and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day.

15 Then the Lord answered him and said, "Hypocrite, does not every one of you on the Sabbath day untie his ox or his donkey from the manger and bring it out to drink?

16 And this daughter of Abraham, whom Satan had bound eighteen years, should not be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?"

Luke 13:16 mentions the word "BIND AND LOOSE."

The verb ATAR refers to a binding or bondage to which the woman had been subjected by satan. The word LOOSE refers to the deliverance that Jesus effected in her through the laying on of His hands.

THE UNLEASHING relates to people who were in chains and shackles of oppression.

In short, the devil is bound and the victim is untied.

NOTE: it is true that God is love and that he always protects us as his children, however, that does not take away from the fact that evil exists, the angels rebelled against God and now they are called "demons". For the same reason that God is love he gives us these spiritual weapons and the authority to cast them out as we observe throughout the Bible, therefore there is evil, there are demons (Jesus himself faced them Matthew 8:28-34, Luke 8:26-39), there is spiritual struggle that we face and also God himself confirms that he exists but tells us that he won those battles and he will always win.
