Un As you enter this church and look up, it appears that a grand dome
rises above you. However, in reality, there is no actual dome. The Marker with solid fill
"dome" is a masterful fresco painted by Andrea Pozzo, designed to
create the illusion of a three-dimensional structure. Using
perspective techniques, Pozzo painted the ceiling in such a way that
it tricks the eye into seeing a dome where there is only a flat surface.
Quirinal Palace
One of the Quirinal Palace architectural features is an optical illusion

involving the columns flanking the windows on the front, because

they appear taller and more imposing compared to the others. The Marker with solid fill central columns are slightly taller and more spaced apart than

those on the sides, making the center of the building seem more
prominent and imposing.
