The Old Aristocrats and Their Interloping Benefactor
The Aristocrats of De Haar - A Study in Ritualized Evasion
They are not monarchs in the traditional sense, nor aristocrats in the modern one. They are the Old Aristocrats; vestigial, performative, and tactically elusive. Their titles are inherited, in one case purchased, their relevance also purchased, and their gestures choreographed to suggest meaning without ever confirming it.
The aristocrats are not merely aloof. They are tacticians of detachment. Their rituals are not designed to uplift, but to obscure, to ensure that no gesture of theirs can be repurposed as being beneficial to the undesired and disdained. They curate their presence like a disappearing act, leaving behind only the residue of inaccessible meaning. Helpfulness, to them, is contamination. To be useful is to be vulnerable to interpretation-and they would rather vanish than be decoded.
This is the choreography of sacred unhelpfulness:
They speak in gestures, not instructions.
They offer glimpses, not guidance.
