The waitress came over breaking Susie’s soliloquy, more or less; saying “Can I get you anything?” The duo was quite hungry, not having had a full meal since they left the US.
Susie and Finn recalled their itinerary card which said; “No menu. Dining open all hours,” which they both interpreted as meaning; “Everything available at all times.”
Susie said; “I’ll have shrimp and grits, please.”
Finn quickly followed with; “And sloppy Joe for me, please.”
The waitress said; “The kitchen only has Stamppot now.”
Susie and Finn realized that their interpretation was wrong, but no matter, they quickly adjusted.
Susie said; “Fine, I’ll have that.”
Finn said; “Me too.”
Neither knew what it was, but didn’t want to appear ignorant in asking as well as immediately realizing that it was the only “real choice.”
When it came, they liked it.
Music began playing as they silently ate. It started almost imperceptibly.
