constellations. Susie hums a tune that the chandelier echoes back in flickers. They begin to realize:
Their observations are not passive-they're annotated by the castle.
The guests occasionally glance at them, not with curiosity, but recognition.
A folded napkin beside Susie bears her childhood nickname, written in gravy.
Finn finds a goblet engraved with a phrase he once whispered in sleep.
They are not merely witnesses. They are ritual anchors; -the ones who stabilize the mythic improvisation. Their presence allows the rules to bend without breaking. The dinner is not for them, but it cannot occur without them.
They begin to suspect that the chandelier is not the final arbiter. It is a messenger. And the true ritual is not the dinner, but the act of perusal-the sacred choreography of noticing without intervening.
