The books are there, yes, but not shelved. Stacked. Piled. Some bound in leather, others in cloth, one wrapped in what looks like a child’s scarf.
Susie kneels beside a stack, her fingers brushing the spine of a volume titled “De Onzichtbare Erfgenaam.”
Finn doesn’t speak. He’s watching the dust devils swirl. They move strangely, as if stirred by breath.
Margriet clears her throat. “You’ll find what you’re looking for,” she says. “Or you won’t. Either way, the room doesn’t mind.”
