A ripple in the air, subtle but undeniable, skimming along the edges of his awareness.
His breath hitched, fingers going still. What is that?
It wasn ’t tangible, yet it was there, pulling at the corners of his mind, whispering of something beyond his reach.
He closed his eyes, letting the sensation wrap around him. For a fleeting moment, he thought he could feel her—
Not her presence, but the faintest echo of it. A warmth against his skin.
Lyra.
His eyes snapped open, heart hammering against his ribs. He took an unsteady step back from the railing.
What the hell is happening to me?
He stubbed out the cigarette against the railing, watching the ember flicker and fade into the dark.
He stood there, hands gripping the cool metal, the city’s pulse throbbing beneath him.
The sensation hadn’t faded. If anything, it was stronger now—beating inside him, an undeniable vibration, waiting.
He didn’t know what it meant.
But he knew one thing.
I can ’t ignore this anymore.
