STARLIGHT UNBOUND
The void swallowed him whole.
And silence reigned.

Lucien jolted awake, his breath caught in his throat. His heart pounded, a merciless rhythm beneath his ribcage, his pulse thrumming in his ears. The dream clung to him —thick, inescapable. The message still echoed, seared into his thoughts like a brand:
“The universe is a number... infinitesimally big and small...”
He sat up slowly, dragging a hand through his damp hair, his fingers trembling against his scalp. It wasn ’t the first time he’d dreamed of the void— visions of stars and shifting shapes had haunted him for weeks—but this... this was different.
The words weren’t fragments anymore. They were precise. Intentional.
Lucien sat up, staring at the shadows pooling along the floor. He exhaled, trying to ground himself, all his cells on fire, connected. What does it mean? And why does it feel like it’s trying to tell me something?
A sharp chime shattered his thoughts.
His wrist device lit up, its glow too bright in the dark room. Lucien flinched, the sudden noise breaking through the fog in his mind. A swipe ending the cacophony, the display scrolled through his schedule: System diagnostics. Meetings. Maintenance checks.
The same routine. The same order. The same life.
Yet, as he stared at the screen, the dream lingered, the words carving themselves deeper: “We exist at a point in the chain where it realizes into matter. ”
The zero point? The thought came without thinking, whispering through his mind. What does that even mean?
Shaking his head, he pushed to his feet, the movement slower than it should. I must be going mad.

Lucien moved through his morning routine with practiced efficiency —shower, coffee, dressing —but it all felt... off. Each action took more effort, his limbs slow, unsteady. His body moved out of habit, but his mind refused to fall in line.
