As the group left the House of Purpose, they found themselves standing at the edge of a long hallway. The corridor was stark and empty, its polished floor gleaming under a row of small, recessed lights that seemed to stretch into the future. At the far end, a set of double doors loomed large, their surface a smooth, dark gray material that reflected nothing but shadows. Above the doors, the sign floated in simple, understated lettering:

“Independent Commission – Special Exhibit by Lyra Hart”

He didn ’t know much about Lyra Hart, only that she was one of the few artists who had managed to gain some prominence in an AstroSYS-regulated society—an accomplishment in itself. Artists were rare enough, their output controlled and evaluated for its contributive harmony, the vague metric by which the system determined whether their work had value. For Lyra to be given her own exhibit, she must have mastered the balance between individuality and compliance.

As they approached the entrance, a digital display beside the doors caught his attention. It cycled through images of her work, the style both vibrant and restrained, like energy held in tension. Below the display, a small digital plaque offered a photo and brief biography of the artist:

“Lyra Hart – Selected artist under the Independent Commission Program. Hart’s work emphasizes the delicate interplay between structure and expression, reflecting the values of harmony and balance central to our collective society.
