The tone shifted once more as they stepped into the next section. A hush settling in over the space.
4. The House of Stability
The muted, earthy tones lending a density to everything within it. Sculptures of low, dense forms dominated the floor —smooth, solid, grounded. Each piece felt like it had been carved from something ancient, something meant to endure.
A centerpiece drew Lucien in —a massive tree sculpture, its roots rendered in intricate detail, extending far beyond the base and weaving into the floor itself.
His fingers absently grazing the edge of the display plaque. Stability. Roots. The idea was comforting, but something gnawed at him. How deep do they really go? Stability, he realized, could as easily be a fragile tether as it could be a foundation.
Darius stood beside him, nodding toward the sculpture. “Looks solid, huh? Like it’s been here forever.”
Lucien ’s lips twitched, but he didn’t respond. He could almost hear the voice of the Speaker in his head, preaching the virtues of balance and harmony. Yet beneath the polished surface of the roots, he couldn ’t help but wonder what might be buried underneath.

After the fourth section, the group found themselves in a small alcove where a sleek coffee stand had been set up, offering visitors complimentary drinks. The break was a welcome one, though the efficiency of the station mirrored everything else about the exhibit—streamlined, orderly, and devoid of excess.
Darius approached the counter first, stretching with a dramatic sigh. “Four Houses down, eight to go. How ’s everyone holding up?”
Leona snorted, tossing her hair over her shoulder. “If I see one more perfect little farm scene, I’m going to scream.”
Carter chuckled softly, tapping his fingers against the counter. “You know this is the warm-up, right? The good stuff’s always at the end.”
