She hesitated, choosing her words carefully. “They’ve lived under control for so long, most of them can ’t even imagine another way. If we don’t show them, the Order will. ”

Lucien, who had been silent until now, finally spoke.

His voice was calm but resolute. “Then we give them an example.”

The room stilled.

Lucien leaned forward, hands clasped. “We ask for an autonomous sector. A part of the city where AstroSYS has no control. No Charts of Life, no recalibration, no alignment. Just people, living their own lives, making their own choices. ”

Corin snorted. “Oh, brilliant. A little experimental playground for free will. And when it fails, the Order gets to say, ‘See? We told you freedom doesn’t work. ’”

Lucien met his glare. “It won’t fail.”

Corin scoffed. “And you know this how?”

Lucien ’s voice didn’t waver. “Because we don’t abandon people. We give them the tools to rebuild—education, infrastructure, security. The system failed because it never allowed people to grow. If we give them the chance to evolve, they will. ”

Selene nodded, thoughtful. “He’s right. People don’t need perfection. They need a chance. If we prove an alternative works, resistance will spread.”

Aarik folded his arms, his tone cautious. “But the Order won’t let us walk away and succeed. They ’ll sabotage us every chance they get.”

Harun leaned back, smirking. “Let them try. It’s not like we’ve been playing nice so far. ”

Lyra shot him a look before turning to Corin. “We won’t agree on every detail. But this is our best chance at something real. We carve out a space where people can choose their own paths, it’s a start.”

The rebels exchanged glances.

Jaris stepped forward. “If we go, it’s on our terms. Not theirs.” His voice was calm, measured but firm. “We choose the location. We bring backup.”

Lyra nodded. “And if they try anything, we walk.”

The rebels debated a little longer, but the decision was made.

They would meet with Caidan.

Aarik and Selene would handle the communication, setting strict conditions for the meeting. A neutral location. Far from the Order’s reach.

Lyra remained as the group dispersed to prepare. “You think this is the right move? ”
