He didn’t respond with words. Instead, he leaned in, his lips brushing against hers. The kiss was soft at first, tentative, but it deepened, the tension between them dissolving into something warmer, something that felt like release.
Her hands moved to his shoulders, gripping him closer as she leaned in.
When they pulled apart, Lyra ’s breath was warm against his skin, his forehead resting against hers.
“You’re not who I thought you were.”
“Neither are you.”
She was shaking inside, her cigarette forgotten, its lit end fading as it dangled from her fingers.
“I don’t want to think about any of it right now.”
Lucien nodded, his hand moving to the small of her back as she rested her head against his chest.
“Then don’t. Just be here.”
