He allowed his mind to wander, his thoughts drifting like the colors, until the pull of sleep overtook him.

Lucien stirred, his body shifting against the mattress.
He thought he was dreaming. The room was warm, cocooning him in a softness that felt almost unreal. The shapes and colors from earlier still flitted at the edges of his awareness, swirling in slow, hypnotic patterns.
He felt a subtle dip of the mattress beneath him, the gentle rustle of fabric against fabric.
He didn’t open his eyes, his breath catching as a presence settled beside him.
The blanket lifted slightly, and a familiar warmth seeped into the space between them, tentative yet deliberate.
His pulse quickened, the slow thrum of his heart betraying the calm he tried to hold onto. A hand stroked his arm, featherlight but certain, and Lucien exhaled, his body instinctively relaxing under the touch.
He turned slightly, his eyes fluttering open enough to catch a glimpse of dark hair and the faint outline of a familiar figure before closing again. Lyra.
She didn’t speak, didn’t ask —she simply was, curling into the space beside him as though she had always been there, as though the gap between them had never truly existed.
Lucien shifted, his arm sliding over her waist in an unspoken acknowledgment, a quiet surrender. The movement felt natural, inevitable, as if he ’d been waiting for this moment without realizing it.
Her breath was warm against his shoulder, steady and slow, her hair carrying the scent of paint and something softer, something that reminded him of lavender and petrichor.
Neither of them spoke. There was no need.
The silence between them, once so heavy, felt full now—brimming with connection, with understanding, with something neither of them had words for but both recognized. This is real. This is... enough.
