Her fingers tapped a sharp rhythm against the comm device. She absorbed the information without missing a beat. “Corin, we’re heading back to the safehouse now. Keep monitoring the feeds. If anything shifts, let me know immediately. ”

There was a pause, then Corin ’s voice softened, losing some of its usual bite. “Get back in one piece, alright?”

Lyra ’s glancing at Lucien and Harun, taking them in as if assessing their limits. “We will.”

The line went dead, the crackling static fading into an eerie hush. Lyra clipped the comm device back onto her belt,

looking at them both, her expression unreadable. “We have the files. Now

we have to make it back alive.”

Harun straightened, stuffing the data drive deep into his coat. “No pressure or anything.”

Lucien forced a shaky breath, pushing down the rising panic. He didn’t dare ask the question gnawing at him —What if we don’t?

Instead, he focused on Lyra ’s steady presence, on Harun’s easy confidence, on the reality that they had come this far.

“Let’s go.” Lyra’s voice snapped him out of it, and he nodded, forcing one foot in front of the other.

The tunnel stretched ahead like a long, gaping snake, swallowing them whole as they slipped deeper into the dark.
