STARLIGHT UNBOUND

settle over her. A part of her knew she might never come back here but she didn’t let herself linger on the thought. Instead, she turned toward the exit, her footsteps slow and measured as she walked through the halls. The door slid shut behind her as she exited the building.

Lucien moved through the city, his footsteps sharp against the concrete walkways. Overhead, drones hovered in silent patrol, their blue lights sweeping the facades of buildings, scanning for cracks and imperfections.

The cold lights skimmed the back of his neck like unseen eyes, and every flicker of motion sent a shiver down his spine.

He turned a corner, his pace quickening as the towering silhouette of the Central Spire faded from view. The streets grew darker here, the glow of the core giving way to flickering lamps and stretches of shadow.

The familiar rhythm of the city —so orderly, so predictable—began to fray with every step.

Lucien glanced over his shoulder.

Empty.

Yet the feeling gnawed at him, a creeping sensation along his spine. Paranoia. That’s all this is. Keep moving.

As he pressed deeper into the district, the city's immaculate symmetry unraveled. The structures facades streaked with grime and weathered paint. Posters clung to the walls—official bulletins from AstroSYS, their sleek edges curling with age. Many had been defaced, the once-pristine insignia slashed through with bold streaks of red.

He spotted a starburst glyph.

It was scrawled in vibrant yellow across the crumbling side of a building, jagged and urgent. Lucien stopped, his eyes tracing its sharp lines. The symbol seemed to pulse under the streetlight, piercing into your mind like a warning— or an invitation.

It’s everywhere.

He tore his gaze away and walked faster, each step feeding the restless energy beneath his skin.

The streets narrowed, the artificial lights thinning out, stretching the shadows longer. The farther he went, the more the city felt... different. Alien. Like he had slipped into a place that shouldn’t exist.

And yet, something pulled him forward.
