Chapter 1- The hidden sentence
You were not born. You were processed. That first shocked gasp
for breath, that panicked cry that made doctors smile and parents weep with joy, was not the beginning of your story. It was your check-in. Your prison intake. Somewhere, far beyond the fluffy clouds, far beyond the reach of any telescope, a record shows your crime, your sentence, and the location of your detention. That location is here and the detention is life itself.

Earth is not a free world. It’s your prison. The ocean and the skies,
the forests, the cities teeming with life ….. it’s all an illusion. You wonder why no one recalls what came before. What happened before
Page | 3 you took your first breath, your first gasp of air. Why some moments
seem so familiar, like you’ve lived them before….deja vu….like a memory that was never allowed to form. The truth is simpler but less comforting, you were made to forget. Rehabilitation through immersion requires erasure first.
And here lies the elegance of your sentence: you will never know
the exact crime. The details were sealed so your living would not be influenced in any way. To learn compassion through pain, responsibility through limitation, perspective through repetition: that is the Overseer’s design.
Some souls live only once, having served their penance swiftly.
Others, more stubborn or more scarred, are forced to return again and again, recycled into bodies until they finally get it right. What if punishment for crimes against life itself is to experience life in every raw, fragile form until understanding is finally carved into you?
You may feel trapped, but you are not alone. Some begin to see
cracks in the system- dreams that are so vivid that when they wake up, in those first fleeting moments, they are not sure which is dream and which reality, visions and echoes of conversations they’ve never had in this body. They will guide you towards escape or perhaps graduation.
But you have to accept the unthinkable first: you are an inmate. And
Earth is your prison.
The air tasted of rust and ash as Eryn stumbled from the drop pod,
her boots sinking into the cracked soil of Earth. The Veil of Atonement

shimmered above, a gleaming wall of light that cut the sky in half, sealing her- and this forsaken planet- away from the galaxy. Her neural implant buzzed: a bloody battlefield, corpses all around, a child’s
Page | 4 laughter in a city of glass, a scream swallowed by void. Sharded Soul,
they’d call her. A convict whose essence had been shattered across lifetimes, each one a test she couldn’t remember failing.
She wiped the sweat from her brow. Around her, jagged spires of
metal rose from the ground. Earth wasn’t just a prison, it shaped souls through suffering, through life experiences. The Overseer’s design, they said. But who was the Overseer? And why did her implant flicker with echoes of a voice she’d never heard, whispering “The Nexus awaits?”
A shadow moved in the distance- a cloaked figure, watching. Eryn
tensed, her hand hovering over her stun gun at her hip. This wasn’t part of the exile protocol. The Galactic Union had dumped her here to rot, not to face whatever this was. She took a step forward and the figure vanished into the spires. Her implant flared again, this time with a map-a jagged path leading toward a pulsing light on the horizon. The Nexus? Or a trap?
She had no choice. With each step, the visions grew sharper and the
question burned: was she here to evolve or to be consumed?
Each past life represents a “shard” of her consciousness, fragmented
by the Warden, as part of her soul’s evolution. These shards aren’t just memories, they manifest as vivid visions, skills bleeding into her current self. The lives are designed to teach lessons in compassion, responsibility, dignity, bravery, but they’ve left her scarred, fueling her quest to destroy the Nexus.

A vision of feudal kingdoms of stone castles and endless wars, in
which she was a noble advisor who orchestrated a rebellion against the tyrannical Lord of the region only to be betrayed by her allies. She
Page | 5 remembered spending her final years in a dungeon, forging secret
alliances among prisoners and dreaming of escape. Her “crime” in this life: prioritizing vengeance over mercy, leading to a cycle of bloodshed that echoes across generations.
The Warden’s lesson: compassion through pain, learning to forgive
to break the cycles of violence.
This was one of the many visions that haunted her, one of her many
past lives.
Eryn stumbled, clutching her chest as the phantom pain of a spear
through her ribs flared, then faded. The vision vanished, leaving her with only the echo of iron chains and the smell of moldy stone. She had died there once. She had failed there once. And now that shard was bleeding into this new life. Her implant pulsed again: “Another shard awaits.”
The whisper was neither mechanical nor human. It coiled through
her mind…. Was it the Warden? Or some other force, older than even the Overseers?
The cloaked figure emerged from the spires once more and this time
did not disappear. Her fingers grazed the grip of her gun. But the figure did not draw a weapon. Instead, it raised a hand revealing a sigil burned into the flesh.

“The Nexus is not your enemy”, the figure said, voice distorted like a
hundred overlapping tones. “It is your reflection”.
Eryn was enraged. “Then why does it call me here? Why mark me
Page | 6
“Because you have not yet remembered the whole crime”, the figure
answered.
The ground trembled. From beneath the cracked soil, jagged
monoliths began to rise, humming with pulses of energy. They formed a circle around her. Eryn spun, weapon raised, but the figure only lowered its hood, revealing- not a face, but a shifting constellation, like the map of a starfield compressed into a skull- shaped mask.
“You are bound by the Veil of Atonement”, it continued. “This world
is not a random exile. It is the crucible where the guilty are burned clean…. or broken forever. The Overseer watches, but so do we”.
“WE?” Eryn spat, sneering against the fear crawling up her spine.
The stars in the figure’s visage pulsed brighter, arranging themselves
into intricate patterns. “The Forgotten. Those who shattered their shackles but linger still, guiding from within the system. You are closer than you think. Your shards are fusing, even if they scar you.”
Eryn tightened her grip. “If you are truly here to guide me, then tell me what the Nexus is”.
The constellation-face flickered. Some stars dimmed. Others flared.
“The Nexus”, the figure whispered, “is the last mirror you will stand before. It is both exit and execution, depending on what you carry when you enter.”

And with that, it disintegrated into a cloud of stardust, swept away
by the wind.
Eryn stood trembling, the monoliths humming around her like the
Page | 7 heartbeat of a buried titan. She understood the Overseer’s cruelty
more deeply now- not just to make her endure lifetimes, but to confront what she had become in each.
For the first time since she was cast down, she wondered if true
escape was possible….
