CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE

In the heavily shielded underground command bunker, the leaders of the world listened as Dr. Lena delivered her terrifying report. The silence in the room was absolute when she finished. The puzzle was solved, and the truth was worse than anyone had imagined. They were not facing a sick friend, but an enemy whose very biology turned them into conquerors on Earth’s soil. The hope for peace evaporated in the cold, sterile air of the bunker.

President Shaan, her face pale but her voice firm, spoke for everyone. "We will not arm them," she declared. "We will not provide them with the materials to build weapons to use against us." The decision was unanimous. Humanity would not bow to the ultimatum. They would refuse the demand and prepare for the consequences. They knew that this decision was, in effect, a declaration of war.

But humanity was not given the chance to formally reply. The deadline that the Xylans had given for their demands came and went. As the final second ticked by, the aliens responded to the lack of compliance with swift and brutal efficiency. They did not wait for a refusal. They interpreted the silence as defiance, and the punishment was instant. The cold war was over, and the hot war had begun.

The first strike was not aimed at a city. It was far more strategic and intelligent. High in orbit, the fleet of Xylan ships fired hundreds of precise energy beams simultaneously. Their targets were every single human-made satellite. Military satellites, communication relays, weather trackers, and GPS systems were all turned into silent, drifting junk in a matter of seconds.

The effect on the planet below was immediate and catastrophic. The global internet flickered and died. International phone calls were cut off. Television screens around the world dissolved into static. Humanity was suddenly blinded and deafened. The intricate web of communication that connected their modern world was gone. Every continent, every nation, was now isolated and alone.

It was a masterful first move. The attack caused widespread chaos and panic but resulted in very few deaths. It was not an act of blind rage, but of cold, calculated military strategy. It crippled humanity’s ability to coordinate a global defense before a single shot had been fired at a human being. In less than a minute, the Xylans had asserted their absolute control of the space around Earth.

In the command bunker, which had its own hardened and independent communication systems, General Thorne and her staff watched in horror. They were not completely blind, but their ability to command their forces across the globe was now severely limited. On their tactical displays, they could only watch as the Xylan fleet moved to consolidate its orbital supremacy.

Then came the second phase of the attack. The Xylan ship that had been sitting in the capital's park activated its new weapons. It did not fire a destructive laser at the city. Instead, it unleashed a single, powerful pulse of electromagnetic energy—an EMP—high into the atmosphere above the capital region. The silent, invisible wave washed outwards for hundreds of miles.

The EMP was devastatingly effective. Every piece of unshielded electronic equipment was instantly fried. The engines of flying cars sputtered and died, and the vehicles began to fall from the sky. The city’s power grid overloaded and went dark. Lights, screens, and all modern conveniences were extinguished in an instant. The capital of the world was plunged into a pre-industrial darkness and silence.

This two-pronged attack was a clear and terrifying demonstration of Xylan power. They had crippled humanity's technology and command structure without destroying a single building or causing mass casualties. This was not a mindless rampage; it was a methodical and merciless conquest. The period of unease and suspicion was over. The era of open aggression had begun, and the war for the future of Planet Earth had started.
