force us onto reservations. But we were equally determined to
protect our land and our freedom."
He paused for a moment, his eyes reflecting the flickering
flames. "On June 25th, we received word that a large force of
soldiers, led by Lieutenant Colonel George Custer, was
approaching our camp along the Little Bighorn River. Our scouts
had been watching their movements, and we knew that a battle was
imminent."
Crazy Horse's voice grew more intense as he recounted the events
of that fateful day. "We gathered our warriors and prepared for
the fight. Our camp was filled with the sounds of drums and war
cries as we readied ourselves for battle. We knew that this
would be a fight for our very survival.
"As the sun rose, Custer and his men launched their attack. They
were confident and believed they could easily defeat us. But
they underestimated our strength and determination. We fought
with everything we had, using the terrain to our advantage and
striking with precision and ferocity."
Crazy Horse's eyes blazed with pride as he spoke of the bravery
of his fellow warriors. "We fought with courage and unity,
driving the soldiers back and overwhelming them with our
numbers. Custer and his men were surrounded and outmatched. The
