59 AN ULTRA VIOLENT FAIRY TALE
She said it over and over again in a tiny whisper like it was a prayer. Glitterbelle titled the womans head back and kissed her firmly, passionately on the lips. The woman almost fell down in a swoon but her love for Luke kept her up.
The fairy saw then that this slightly fat woman was covered in a glow, it was a weak light compared to the one she saw on Kickswitch and her little family but it was there. This woman loved Luke, whereas she lusted after him. Did Luke love either one of them, did it even matter? Maybe the wizard was right.
She didn’t understand at first why she helped the wizard. Was it because she’d felt the glow from afar and followed it to Kickswitch as opposed to finding her by luck or by chance? Glitterbelle realized she was drawn to glow like it was a pheromone and wanted to find the source. She helped the wizard because she wanted to be loved, much like this chubby woman wanted Luke’s love.
Glitterbelle let go of the woman as a wave of deep dark depression rolled over her. The woman went right to Luke’s side, he hardly moved and his breathing was a whistle but he was alive. She got him on his feet and they ran off without looking back.
Glitterbelle stood still watching until they were out of her sight. In the shadows of the building her mind was distracted, her mood low. She didn’t know the Chief Marshal was there until it was too late.
Her back suddenly felt like it was on fire as blood began to drip down one of her legs. She let out a groan as she was hit by another lick of flame on her back. She felt a sensation come over her like she was going to vomit as her one leg could no longer hold her. She was on her knees when the sword went into her back.
Its tip came through only a little, rills of blood went down her chest as she let out a breathless moan and fell to her side. Just behind and beside her was Paradine. In his hand were her wings, the membranes wiggled as blood dripped from them.
“I knew if I just waited, your emotions would make you dumb. I guess the blade needs to go a little deeper.” Paradine said with a lecherous smile.
He stood over her looking impossibly tall in her depressed eyes, her skin was slowly turning gray and her glitter freckles turning to specks of dirt as her hair became the color of cob webs. Glitterbelle laid still taking shallow breaths feeling defeated, though she possibly had a pierced heart it was her back that hurt most. She made an attempt to removed the blade from her back.
“I wouldn’t do that. It’s a dragon bone blade, you take it out and your heart will be squirting your blood blood everywhere. Might not be a bad idea to get a jar and let you bleed into one, a half pint of fairy 60 AN ULTRA VIOLENT FAIRY TALE
blood would make me a lot of money. I’ll let you bleed out then I’ll use the blade to remove your head and present it to The Lady herself.”
Glitterbelle was still and silent as a lone tear rolled down her cheek.
“Aw, come on now. Don’t be sad, I promise...”
Before he could finish talking, the back and top of Paradine’s head burst open in a red explosion from the close range shot of a hand cannon. The Chief Marshal did a little shimmy before collapsing dead to the floor. Stepping out from behind the smoke created by the discharge of the weapon was Kickswitch.
It wasn’t long after Glitterbelle departed for Neon City that Kickswitch felt something nag her. She didn’t have the gift like Mariana, but her sister said everyone had an inkling of it. Nelly noticed the look on her face.
“You’re worried about the fairy.” said Nelly as they sat by the bon fire.
Kickswitch nodded.
“Why?” asked her brother Lenny. “She’ll kick everybody’s ass, it’s not like they’ll catch her.”
“What are you talking about they caught her once already.” his sister said which silenced him.
Later Kickswitch was wearing a thick hooded sweatshirt putting on a back pack and her hiking boots.
The others watched her silently for a moment.
“You’re really going to Neon City?” asked Sandy.
“Yes.”
“It’s dangerous.” said Lenny, his voice a strained whisper.
“Lenny’s right,” said Sandy. “let me come with you. I know how to fight even without a weapon.”
