Chapter XVIII.
I returned home on Thursday, March 25, 2004. Shortly thereafter, I spoke to her once on the phone. As she often did, Oksana requested to have more money sent via Western-Union. I refused. Instead, I broke up with Oksana, via e-mail on Wednesday, April 1, 2004.
I felt betrayed by Oksana. She would be thirty-six years old today. Given the tough changes that the region is going through, I would have to hope and pray she has gone back to live with her parents near Moldova.
Moldova is just to the west of Odessa, Ukraine. In a span of six weeks (from February 21, 2014 to May 2, 2014), there was a death toll of forty-three people (Maria Tsvetkova, Slaviansk, Ukraine). It just makes me sad to know that I had been walking those same streets just ten years prior.
