Chapter seven

The hunger for miracles without repentance

Miracles are the acts of God. As humans, we have limitations. We need the hands of God in some aspects of our lives. In situations like this, we need a supernatural power that can do what we cannot do. This is where the signs, wonders, breakthroughs, and power of God manifest. Miracles increase our faith. It is through miracles that we see the evidence of a supernatural being.

However, we must understand that miracles are not the ultimate. Craving miracles and resisting the gospel of repentance and transformation is an error. Miracles are great, but they are not the foundation. When we pursue miracles and undermine holiness, we become vulnerable to the enemy.

The enemy knows that people who desire miraculous power without the truth are easy prey. This is one reason some pastors resort to diabolical, deceptive methods to perform miracles. It is no news that Christ Jesus did not give in to people who desire miracles and depart from the truth.

Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of Heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in Heaven.

Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Matthew 7:21-23

From the Holy Scriptures, we can see that Christ Jesus denied some Christians because they pursued miracles, rejected the truth, and lived in darkness. Some people are in churches, yet Christ Jesus does not know them. These people prophesy in the name of Christ Jesus. These Christians perform deliverance and do many wonderful works in the name of Christ, but God does not know them. How can this be? Working miracles, prophesying, doing the work of God, and yet God does not know you? What a shock!

And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet.

Luke 11:29

People who reject the truth and desire miracles are evil. That’s the words of Christ Jesus. When you desire power without a proper foundation in the Holy Scriptures, you deviate from the path of God.

Power reveals your real character. Some people declare that power corrupts. That’s a half-truth. Power corrupts people who are not truly born again. People who have surrendered their lives to Christ Jesus and walked in His path know how to use power. It is only those who do not have Christ or know Christ who corrupt power.

Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled.

John 6:26

People who desperately desire miracles and forsake the path of the saints have no love of God and the church. If you truly love God, miracles will follow you. Miracle seekers most often only care about their lives. Most of them have no place for the Holy Spirit. Miracles shouldn’t be the foundation of the Christian faith. The word of God should be the foundation. When the truth (the word of God) takes root, miracles take place (John 8:32).
