GOD’S RELATIONSHIP WITH THE WORLD

“The earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.” Psalm 24:1-2.

Most of us have heard the story of a mad scientist who created robots only to find that a glitch in the program caused them to do most everything other than what he wanted them to do. They were not responsive to their maker, but created havoc instead of the intended order.

Perhaps it is a poor illustration at best, but consider with me the similarities that exist between God and the world of His creation.

God made the world. It was perfect although it presently does not honor or acknowledge Him, He remains its Creator. “All things were made by Him and without Him was not anything made that was made.” John 1:3. Something awful happened in His wonderful world in the Garden of Eden. Adam cast it down so that the world is presently not what God originally created or intended at all.

God sustains the world. He makes the rain fall on the just and the unjust and the sun to shine on the same. He sustains it in seed time, summer, harvest time, and winter, and shall as long as the earth stands. Genesis 8:22.

God provides for the world. It is He who gives the world its daily bread. Additionally, it is he who has planned the beginning and the end, making adequate provisions for everything in between. It is He who provides truth, knowledge, wisdom, and blessings for all who trust in Him.

God redeems the world. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16. He is the redeeming Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ who took upon Himself our sin and dross; paid for it on the cross; arose from the dead, and is coming again.

God will judge the world. He judged the Hebrews at Kadesh-barnea for their lack of faith, and has done so many times with pestilence, famine, and sword. He will judge the nations, Matt. 25; He will judge His people, 2 Cor. 5:10; I Cor. 3:9-16. He will judge the unsaved and wicked at the Great White Throne Judgment., Rev. 20:11.

He will destroy the world. All that pertains to the present cosmos will melt with fervent heat and pass away with a loud noise. II Peter 3:10 All that materially exists of this present universe is destined to return to the unseen state.

He will create a new world. This will include new heavens, and a new earth on which is New Jerusalem, and the absence of a sea. That new earth and the world existing upon it will never know sin and wrong, but will live
