GOD IS GOING TO LAUGH

“The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision” Psalm 2:2-4.

There is laughter, and then there is laughter! Some is wholesome, gut-busting humor that defies one to not laugh. Some is an expression of frustration signaling one is near the end of patience. Still other laughter is in derision; it mockingly haunts those who willfully defy and deny truth and wisdom to their own destruction. It is this last class of laughter that God will apparently exhibit at the end of this age. Think for a minute!

One can calculate the passage of calendar time since the creation of Adam. He can evaluate the time in view of prophetic utterances of prophets, apostles, and Jesus Himself. Additionally, one can estimate the time of the age from current events which grow more ungodly, sacrilegious, and wicked. In any one of these three or all three taken together, it is evident to the Bible student that the very end of the church age is upon us, and may be fulfilled to termination in an extremely short span of time. What does that have to do with laughter? Stay focused for a minute more.

Psalm 2 is a description of the end of this age. It plainly states the actions of world political leaders, and of Jesus together with a stern warning of conduct in view of the brevity of time left to this present world system.

The kings and rulers of earth counsel together against Jehovah and against His anointed (His church, the pillar and ground of His truth) to marginalize them in their thinking and actions. It is among the last actions of wicked men as the age comes to a close. Surely, when one reads the lines of this Psalm, he will not deny that it is descriptive of present times.

The result of these final actions of the world in relationship to God, and His instruments of salvation, and truth that evokes Divine laughter from the LORD. He will laugh the laughter of righteousness and displeasure in their dogmatically held derision.

It is decreed of the Heavenly Father. The Son will claim His rightful inheritance, and He will break the heathen in pieces with a rod of iron. So, what should be the sobering actions of men in view of this certainty? “Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear and trembling. Kiss the Son lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.” O, come, then, dear reader. Let us walk in the fellowship

of the light of His eternal Word!
