A SHORT BUT POWERFUL PSALM 15

ILORD, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? Who shall dwell in thy holy hill? 2 He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart. 3 He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbour, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour. 4 In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honoureth them that fear the LORD. He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not. 5 He that putteth not out his money to usury, nor taketh reward against the innocent. He that doeth these things shall never be moved.

WORD STUDY NOTES

Verse One: “Abide” is in Hebrew “Yagur,” meaning to turn aside or turn in as a guest for the night. “Dwell” is in Hebrew “Shakan” meaning to settle down, reside. inhabit. “Hill” or “Mountain” is a figure of speech for operation or government.

Verse Two: “Uprightly,” is “Tamim,” meaning without spot or blemish.

Verse Three: “Backbiteth” is “Ragal,” a word for “foot” but carries the idea of one footing about to slander and/or a talebearer. “Neighbor,” is “Ra’ah,” companion, or one near. The second word “Neighbor” is “Qarob,” meaning to approach or to come near.

Verse Four: “vile person” is “Nivzeh,” extremely unpleasant, morally corrupt.

Verse Five: “Money” is “Kespho,” silver money, shekels. “Usury” is “Neshek” meaning “To strike with a sting.” or an exorbitant rate that results in a sting. “These” is “Elleh,” and is emphasized. “Moved” is “Yimoth” dislodged, removed, slip, or slide, with negative.

EXPANDED TRANSLATION: “Yahweh, who shall be a guest for the night in your tent? Who shall settle down in residence in your holy hill (way of governance?) 2. He who walks correctly [keeping thy word], and works rightwiseness, and speaks the truth in his heart. 3. He that does not backbite with his tongue or does evil to his close companion nor takes up a reproach against his near neighbor. 4. In whose eyes an extremely unpleasant, morally corrupt person is condemned; but he honors them that fear Yahweh; who swears to his own hurt, and does not change. 5. He that does not put out his money to exorbitant usury rates to sting another, nor takes reward against the innocent. He who
